A daughter and son-in-law have been arrested in Kolkata for slitting the mother’s throat and dumping her in a bylane on Sunday.
The body of Sampa Chakraborty, 47, was found wrapped in a piece cloth at the Basudavpur Road, here, said an investigating officer. According to the police, the woman’s daughter has already confessed to her crime and also affirmed her husband’s involvement in the same.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was a resident of an apartment in the same lane from where her body was found. When the police reached her flat it was locked and there was no trace of her family members. The officer said,
We broke open the door and recovered some objects, which we suspect to be weapons of crime. Also, the articles used to tie the body was probably taken from the flat itself.
Three persons were detained for questioning. When the police talked to neighbours, they told them that there was a big quarrel in the family on Saturday night.
One woman in the neighbourhood said she had seen the woman’s daughter and son-in-law carrying something with them that night. Suspecting them to be robbers, she also made a video of their movement near the apartment’s garage.
The police are considering this video as an important piece of evidence.
In another story from Bangalore last week, a 15-year-old girl and her 19-year-old boyfriend allegedly killed the girl’s father, after he took away her mobile phone and restricted her movements.
