#HusbandSuicide is not just a hashtag, but a grave reality, which sadly remains unpublished by mainstream English media. Yet another case of a man ending his life due to harassment from wife and in-laws has been reported from Sonepat, Haryana. The man left a suicide video accusing his wife and mother-in-law for harassing him constantly, which drove him to end his life. Besides the video, he has also left a suicide note blaming his father-in-law’s threats that forced him to take poison.
Case:
28-year-old Yashpal was married to a girl from Sonepat district in Haryana in 2018. The couple has two and a half year old daughter.
Since marriage, there were frequent fights amongst the two, and on Saturday, the domestic dispute between Yashpal and his in-laws reached a point where police had to be called in. According to the allegations, the young man was fed up of threats by his father-in-law and decided to die by suicide. His family rushed him to a hospital upon learning that Yashpal had consumed poison, however, the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Suicide Evidence
In the video, Yashpal has blamed his wife, in-laws and other relatives for being responsible for his death. He also suggested that the custody of his daughter be given to his family.
Police has also recovered a suicide note from the location of his death and according to man’s relatives, a case has been registered against Yashpal’s wife and her father. Police is currently investigating the matter.
Matrimonial laws are extremely biased against Men. If a woman dies by suicide or under mysterious circumstances, within 7-years of marriage, her husband is arrested immediately with or without evidence. However, we witness numerous cases of husbands ending their lives within months and few years of marriage, leave suicide notes, yet the police merely registers a case. There is no fear of immediate arrest for women and their families for driving a men to end their lives, and most often they are also acquitted later.
