Telugu TV Actor Dies Of Suicide | Partner Booked For Abetment To Suicide On Allegations By Girl’s Family

On Tuesday, popular Telugu TV serial and film actor Sravani Kondapalli died by suicide.

Sravani, 26, was found dead in her home at Madhuranagar, SR Nagar police limits, in Hyderabad. The body of the actor has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post mortem.

As reported by The News Minute, Savani ended her life due to an alleged harassment from a man, identified as Devraj Reddy. The two had met few years ago on the now banned video sharing application TikTok. Devaraj (Sunny), a native of Gollaprolu in Kakinada, reportedly introduced himself as an orphan, and had grown close to Sravani.

Speaking to the media, Sravani’s brother, Shiva Kodapalli, alleged that Devraj had been harassing his sister for money. He further alleged that Devaraj threatened Sravani with certain “videos.” He quoted,

My sister told me that she is under pressure as he was blackmailing her. She said that she has a shooting to attend, but she soon took this extreme decision.

Sravani’s parents have also lodged a complaint of harassment against Devraj at SR Nagar police station and have accused the man of driving their daughter to suicide.

An inspector at SR Nagar police station told the portal,

A case has been registered against one man for alleged harassment and an investigation is underway.

Sravani had been a part of the industry for the past eight years. She had acted in various serials like Manasu Mamata and Mounaragam.

Allegations By Parents

As reported by The Hindu, Sravani’s parents lodged a complaint against Reddy, stating that he was stalking and harassing their daughter. After that, the family members admonished her for moving with him.

Based on the complaint lodged by Sravani’s parents, a case under Section 306 (Abetment to suicide) of Indian Penal Code was registered against Reddy and team was sent to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to arrest him.

Her parents also alleged that Reddy had threatened the victim to post her personal photographs and videos on social media. Later, he agreed to delete the photos and videos on payment of Rs 1 lakh, which was paid to him in instalments through Google Pay. The parents accused the man of harassing their daughter even after receiving the money.

• Our prime reason to publish this case is not to declare the man as innocent or guilty
• The case draws ample parallels to the controversial Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, where despite the man’s family putting forth several allegations against his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, Mumbai police did not file any FIR against the accused woman
• No one can empathise with what the family of the deceased goes through — whether it is in case of SSR or Sravani in this matter
• The point we want to drive is, whenever a woman ends her life, the first person responsible is supposedly a man in her life and mere allegations of the girl’s family suffice to register a case of abetment to suicide
• When genders have been reversed, organised campaigns like #SmashThePatriarchy have been channeled, turning the entire matter into a gender debate (which is totally incorrect)
• One must prove themselves innocent basis evidences and not shield themselves behind a gender
