While several married men have been dying by suicide over the years, sadly, these stories are now gaining more attention, particularly after the nationwide outrage on Atul Subhash’s case.
One more Husband Suicide has been reported, this time again from Karnataka.
Case:
Shivaraj Yettinagudda (35) hailed from Belur village in Dharwad district. He got married to Yallava Bengeri, a high school teacher by profession, in July 2024.
Within 15-days of the marriage, wife left her matrimonial home and returned to her parents. Amongst other demands, Yallava also asked her husband to build a new house in Dharwad. Despite fulfilling all demands of wife, husband’s attempts to reconcile with her failed as she refused to return.
Husband Suicide
On November 16, 2024, Shivaraj ended his life alleging harassment from his estranged wife. He was found hanging at his home. Initially, the police did not recover any last note and a case of unnatural death was registered. It was only following the forensic report findings, that the police found a suicide letter written by the deceased husband, blaming his wife for driving him to take this extreme step. The note also mentioned that his wife must be punished for her actions.
Subsequently, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Shivaraj’s wife Yallava.
Statement by Husband’s Family
Shivaraj’s sisters added that their brother was subjected to mental harassment, that led to his untimely demise. They claimed that Yallavva demanded a new house but refused to return even after it was built. The sisters have urged the authorities to take strict action against her and demanded that the education department suspend her from her position as a teacher.
They further added, that Shivaraj was being harassed for property, which was the main reason for his distress.
