Remember the 2006 Shahid Kapoor Bollywood movie ‘Vivah’? A similar climax was witnessed at Pratapgarh district of Prayagraj recently, where the groom did marry his bride, despite her meeting with a horrible mishap, just a few hours before the wedding ceremony.
Case:
Awdhesh Maurya, has been hailed widely over social media for marrying his bride, despite her facing severe wounds, just hours before the marriage.
The bride-to-be Arti Maurya, encountered a tragic accident, due to which she suffered serious spinal injuries and fractured both her legs – just about eight hours before the wedding. Awdhesh learnt about the accident and despite knowing that Arti may not get back to leading a normal life soon, the groom insisted on marrying his bride.

The man said that he would continue with the ceremonies and all rituals that had been planned and the same will be performed at the woman’s native place at Mujheri village in Kunda tehsil of Pratapgarh district.
The wedding was fixed for December 8 and the groom remained firm on his decision to marry his one and only bride, Arti. The woman’s family got their daughter back home from the hospital in an ambulance. Thereafter, both families performed all the wedding rituals as per arrangements.

Shailendra, brother of the bride told TOI,
Arti is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Prayagraj. She is recovering fast and is now able to sit on the bed. Doctors have told us that she will recover fully within four months.
Adding further he said,
In the afternoon of December 8, Arti fell off from the terrace of her house while she was trying to save the life of a child playing on the same terrace.
We immediately took her to a nearby hospital in Kunda town where doctors referred her to Prayagraj for treatment. We then brought her to a private hospital in Prayagraj where doctors performed the operation.
Shockingly, the bride’s family informed Awdhesh of the accident and also proposed that he should now get married to Arti’s younger sister. However, the groom outrightly refused and insisted that he would get married only to Arti on the same day the wedding was scheduled.
Awdhesh said that the incident could have occurred even after marriage and nothing would have changed his thoughts even then. The woman’s brother concluded,
We requested the doctors if we could take Arti to her native house in Kunda village to perform the wedding rituals. When the doctors granted permission, Arti was taken back to the house through an ambulance and the wedding was held in the presence of the family.
Amita Rao, the lead actor of Vivah, congratulated the couple and termed it ‘Real Life Vivah’. She said ‘more power’ to the couple.
Often social media is all about male bashing. However, such stories must be spread across widely to smash the constant narrative of showing Indian Men in poor light. We can have bad people amongst any genders, however, only stereotyping Men as greedy dowry seeking husbands must be totally called out.
