In a shocking incident reported from Tamil Nadu, a 19-year-old woman allegedly eloped with a 17-year-old boy, got married to him and then sexually assaulted her ‘husband’. Following a complaint by the minor boy’s mother, the woman in question surrendered before the police.
Case:
The case has been reported from Pollachi in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district.
The accused woman was employed at a petrol bunk in the town. The 17-year-old boy has cleared Class 12 examination and often visited the woman’s place of work. Since the past one year, the woman developed feelings for the boy and on Thursday, the teenage petrol bunk worker eloped with the minor boy to Palani, where she allegedly solemnised marriage with him, reported TOI.
A police officer told media,
The following day, the two came back to Coimbatore. They were living in a rented house in Semmedu. During this time, the woman sexually assaulted the boy.
Mother Lodges Complaint
The teenage boy’s mother, meanwhile, approached the police with her complaint against the woman. After learning about the complaint, the accused, along with the minor boy, came to the all-women police station in Pollachi and turned herself in to the police officials. Subsequently, she was placed under arrest.
The accused woman has been booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. She was produced in a court and sent to judicial custody.
Sexual Assault/Rape Laws Must Be Gender Neutral
This is a case where the boy was a minor and the girl an adult. Thus, under the provisions of POCSO Act, the woman has been booked and arrested for sexual assault on the minor boy (husband).
However, recently in a shocking case from Mumbai (read at the end of this article), a 16-year-old porn addict girl raped her 13-year-old brother, and in turn got impregnated. While the girl is in hospital, her younger brother who was forced by the elder sister, is now in juvenile detention centre.
Lets take examples where both are adults, there is no provision under the law, where a Man can report sexual harassment or molestation or rape by a woman. Even in cases, where Men have approached police to file cases against female sexual exploiters, those women have in turn used rape laws against the victim Men themselves. This is one major reason, Men do not speak up or dare to admit sexual exploitation or rape by women – be it at work places or even within the confines of their home.
Many have been raising their voice to criminalise ‘Marital Rape’, however, when Men’s Rights Activists call for making the same Gender Neutral, women’s rights activists come up with endless excuses trying to look the other way, or completely deny that #MenToo can be raped.
