Social media is abuzz after the arrest of TV Actor Karan Mehra on Monday night. Mehra was arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting his wife Nisha Rawal.
Nisha filed a complaint in the Goregaon (Mumbai) police station alleging that after an argument, Karan pushed her against a wall, and hurt her head.
After he was freed on bail on Tuesday, the TV actor shared his side of the story where he accused his wife of ‘smashing her head on the wall’ after the alimony discussions between them failed. He has even called the case filed against him as ‘false’.
Alliance
Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal met on the sets of her film Hastey Hastey in 2008, where he was working as a stylist. Soon the two became friends and love blossomed. The couple had a big fat Indian wedding in November 2012. The duo also participated in Nach Baliye 5 together. Karan and Nisha welcomed their first baby Kavish Mehra in 2017.
Case:
Karan Mehra’s wife Nisha Rawal filed a case of Domestic Violence against him on May 31 night accusing him of assault. An FIR was registered under:
- Section 336
- Section 337
…of the IPC. Karan was detained for questioning and later the actor was arrested.
As reported by Indian Express, Karan was granted bail after being produced before a magistrate court in Borivali (west) on Tuesday morning.
Nisha Rawal’s Statement
The wife had a press conference on Tuesday evening to share her side of things amid reports of domestic violence.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Nisha said that she indeed was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but was ‘not a psycho’. She said,
Bipolar is a mood disorder which happens due to extreme trauma and it’s genetic sometimes. I was diagnosed with bipolarity and I am not going to lie about it as I am not ashamed about it. But I am not a psycho, it is a mood disorder. And you all know how balanced I am. I create content for the web, I make videos and write about things. I don’t have to prove anything.
The wife also said that she had a miscarriage in 2014 and Karan was not there for her support. She added,
In September 2014, I was 5 months pregnant and I lost my child. Recently, I made a Mom’s group where women who lost their child can speak up about it as when I lost my child I did not have anyone to talk about the loss.
I wanted to go to my parents and talk to them because it was a very big trauma for me. In the middle of it my husband was beating me up, abusing me, he was unavailable, totally detached and that’s when I went to a therapist. In fact, Karan had stopped me from going to a therapist, he didn’t let me go to a gym, he was very controlling in everything.
Nisha has also accused Karan of having an extra marital affair. She said that he was ‘not even taking responsibility of the child’.
Karan Mehra’s Statement
On the other hand, Karan Mehra has refuted his wife’s allegations and said that there was trouble in his marriage with Nisha for a couple of years and they were trying to ‘fix things’. He said,
We have been in a strained relationship for a couple of years now, and since we could see there was no point staying together, we decided to part ways. Given we have a son, I wanted to separate amicably so that we can give him a good future.
I came back from Chandigarh to talk things out and got infected with Covid-19. After having recovered, I called her rakhi brother Ritesh Sethia home so that he can help us come to a mutual decision.
Karan then went on to add that Nisha’s brother demanded a huge alimony amount, which was not possible for him to pay. Nisha, as per him, also gave him a huge list of things in demand. After not coming to a conclusion, Karan said he told them that they will talk about it later or let the court decide, reported Indian Express.
Speaking about what happened on the night of allegation, Karan said that while he was speaking to his mother, Nisha barged in and started abusing him and his family. He shared,
She even spat at me twice and kept saying she will play dirty now. I told her to leave the room and while I was washing my hands, she smashed her head on the wall, and told everyone that I did it. They also started recording footage on the phone to frame me.
Her brother hit me and even threatened to kill me and my family. I am still very weak from my Covid-19 diagnosis and did not even have the strength to fight back.
Police Action
According to Karan, Mumbai Police heard his side of the case as well, and though they filed a report, he was allowed bail subsequently by court.
Currently shaken from the incident, Karan shared that he will live with his friends and then move to his parents home. He said he is already in talks with his lawyers for the divorce.
MDO refrains from taking either sides since matter is subjudice. However, we do question social media judgements and sympathy in favour of the woman, going by her one sided statement.
