Delhi Metro Responds To Men’s Day Out On Anti-Male Ad Labelling All Men As Molesters

On December 27, we came across an extremely offensive Delhi Metro Ad which read as follows:

“Do you know why we don’t have a Men’s Coach in Metro?

That’s because there are hardly any Men in Delhi.

#Stop_Molesting Be A Man”

The same was a poster put up in a coach of Delhi Metro. Though undated, the image was not photoshopped for certain. Men’s Day Out, which has been constantly opining on how feminism and women empowerment has been reduced to hating men, reached out to Delhi Metro twitter handle and quoted the below:

A number of responses followed on the thread, where both men and women outraged against labelling all Men travelling in the metro as ‘Molesters’. We also sent a detailed official email complaint to Delhi Metro demanding a clarification on the matter. Read detailed complaint at the end of the article.

Today, we have received an official response from Delhi Metro, which shockingly accepted that the Ad was indeed put up in the coach. Their reply read as follows:

While a response is appreciated, it is also extremely painful to learn that a government entity actually sanctioned such a derogatory Ad against men. Of course, no apology has followed yet.

We are living in times, where it is so fashionable to bash men and mere word of the woman against a male gender is taken as gospel truth. Sadly, the mindset of the society needs to change, as the same could be applicable on your own family member or loved one sooner or later.

Official Complaint Sent to Delhi Metro By Men’s Day Out

(Dated: December 27, 2020)

Dear Team Delhi Metro,

At the outset, one cannot address any first email to you, without thanking you immensely for the life changing project you have gifted to the people of Delhi. You have surely enriched the lives of all citizens in the capital, by making it extremely comfortable, convenient and also safe to a great extent.

I do not deny that there could be certain unpleasant experiences that would have taken place during one’s journey on Delhi Metro. The same could either be molestation of women or men, theft, slangs and abuses hurled by individuals on other fellow passengers (irrespective of genders), altercations over seating during peak hours and many others.

However, I was extremely disturbed when I came across a Delhi Metro Ad on social media today – the exact photograph has been attached in this email – the same read as follows:

At the outset, let me inform you that this complaint is made by a woman (the undersigned) and not a ‘potential molester’ man. Despite your possible good intent of protecting women from real criminals, your creative agency has gone overboard by demonstrating their radical feminism. The message comes across in extremely poor light targeting and labelling all Men as ‘Molesters’.

I am certain, we all have Men in our lives, as fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, friends, colleagues and others who would have done way more to protect the dignity of a woman than a woman herself. The sarcasm that your ad agency tried to project by using such a shallow tagline, illustrates their care of women less, and hate towards all Men more. I am not sure what process is duly followed before allowing a banner to be put up in the coach, especially when the same is an official Delhi Metro ad and not a third party campaign.

I, through my portal www.mensdayout.com ‘s facebook/twitter/instagram handle @mensdayoutindia have posted the same along with another 2017 report published by mainstream media. The said report by CISF had issued a warning three years ago, how 90% of pickpockets in Delhi Metro were women. Does this mean citizens start looking at every other female passenger as someone who is a potential thief? Certainly not, but the same principle gets overlooked when it comes to Men and tags given to them.

In the hindsight, imagine a college male student who is yet to see the world, reads such a message in the coach, what influence are you creating on the young mind who is equally battling and struggling to make a career alongside women? What happens to any kind of social responsibility towards the male gender by a reputed government entity like yours?

Either you could overlook my email completely and trash the same, or rectify the mistake by an apology through your twitter handle, while taking down the offensive Ad. Since we came across the same on social media, we are not sure if this was a current or a past Ad, however, DMRC needs to be sensitised and take up this matter in all seriousness with your ad agency as well as team members in general.

I don’t want to get into how men contribute towards maximum revenue and workforce for DMRC, because even if they didn’t, all genders deserve equal respect and acknowledgement in public and personal space.
