The Chairperson of Chattishgarh State Commission for Women bluntly spoke about few on ground realities while discussing cases involving rape complaints by women, after consensual relationships with men. While the women commission chief has not uttered anything derogatory against real women victims, many on social media seem to have been upset with her stance, including NCW Chief Rekha Sharma.
While interacting with journalists and discussing about women harassment cases at Prathana Bhawan in Raipur, Dr Kiranmayee Nayak, Chairperson of the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Woman remarked on the alarming situation of false cases as well.
Dr Nayak spoke about how women must foresee the difference between real and reel life, and not believe everything they see on screen. The state commission chief also remarked that there were many women who claimed to be ‘victims’ but had deliberately fallen into the pit by choice.
When the journalists quizzed her about women harassment, Dr Nayak quoted,
In many cases that we receive, it can be seen that the couple was in a live-in relationship. Many women stay with their partners together and when the marriage does not happen or the relationships fail, they file a rape case.
Adding further, Dr Nayak also said:
In such a situation, girls should think carefully before getting into a relationship with someone, because the consequences of such relationships can be either ways.
Real & Reel Are Two Different Worlds
Dr Nayak commented on how real lives are different from what people see in the movies. She urged women to be aware of their rights. If girls are minor, they should ignore the way love is portrayed in the movies at that age and not get caught up in any such acts. It can ruin their family, home and life.
The chairperson also disclosed that they had been receiving several such cases where girls are not even 18-years of age, but ended up getting married. These same girls then approach Women’s Commission, mostly after giving birth to a child.
Build Your Life First; Be Responsible
For all girls who take up such big decisions of their lives without giving it much thought at a tender age, end up losing many crucial years of their lives. Dr Nayak’s clear message for all of them is that they should first become responsible enough to take decisions in their lives by educating themselves.
She further continued that women should be able to voice their opinion, and if any married man is forcing them to love him, then that’s a relationship one should never fall into, because you have to understand that he is lying to you. However, after voluntarily getting involved in such relationships, women visit police stations and courts for justice.
NCW Chief Disagrees
Rekha Sharma, NCW Chairperson has completely dismissed any truth in what Dr Nayak has expressed, as mentioned above. Sharma took to twitter and wrote:
We say people need to change the mindset of blaming victims but where will vickims go if SCW chairperson have this premitive mindset. @ChhattisgarhCMO pl look into it. Most Rape Complaints Filed After Break-Up, Says Women’s Body Chief

Men’s Day Out pointed out to Sharma, how acknowledgement of False Rape cases have also come from UP CM, Rajasthan DGP, Himachal Pradesh Police as well as Maharashtra Government through their latest Shakti Act. Instead of dismissing the misuse, NCW Chief must act upon punishing the false accusers, so that real victims of rape get speedy justice. However, her tweet in this context clearly implies that women are always the victims and men must be jailed on their mere allegations.
Here is the thread that we shared:
Dear @sharmarekha ma’am
Menace of #FalseRape cases hv also been acknowledged by UP CM himself. Instead of analysing how false complaints are worst for real victims, u choose to look away
If false accusers were punished,Nirbhaya’s parents wouldn’t hv to wait for 7-yrs to justice https://t.co/W2klTJGg31 pic.twitter.com/IIjgJXUjN3

In her recent tweet, Pallavi Ghosh, senior political editor, CNN News 18 has also openly spoken about what police and people on ground have shared as far as False Rape complaints are concerned. Ghosh had commented on the same after we published a recent Delhi High Court order on quashing rape charges against a man, where woman had filed a false complaint ‘out of anger’. A cop told me that upto 75% of cases false yet nothing can be done – he said entire purpose is being lost

Reacting to Dr Nayak’s comment, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said,
I would not like to make a comment on it. This is a constitutional post. If she has said anything then it must be on the basis of her experience, on the basis of the data.
