A man ended his life in Chennai after he was forced to marry his former wife, he divorced two-years ago.
The 34-year-old man had set himself afire at his house in Maduravoyal, Chennai on Wednesday.
M. Prithviraj, ended his life two days after he was abducted and was forced to marry the woman he divorced couple of years ago. Chennai police later registered a case against Ilaiyaraaja and Dhamu, for kidnapping and abetment of suicide of their former bother-in-law, Prithviraj. Police has also sent a search party after them.
As per the spokesperson of the Chennai police, the deceased Prithviraj used to work in a lathe workshop at Padi near Ambattur. He married a woman named ‘Sathya’ almost seven-years ago. They later were blessed with a son, who now is six years old. The couple then got separated couple of years ago, due to some difference of opinions and were granted divorce by the court back then.

As per the reports by local police, Prithviraj’s parents decided him to get married to another woman. His ex-wife’s brothers, Dhamu and Ilaiyaraaja came to know about it. After this, on Monday night, they went to Prithviraj’s house and kidnapped him by putting him into the car and drove away.
Prithviraj’s parents were scared and frightened and hence they lodged a complaint with the Maduravoyal police. The police registered the case and launched a search party for the two brothers and their sister. However, Prithviraj on Tuesday night, came back to his home himself. The next day, on Wednesday morning, he drenched himself with petrol and set himself on fire inside his residence. His family, along with his neighbours, rushed and took him to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital (KMCH). He died there itself without responding to the treatment in the evening.
However, before breathing his last, Prithviraj made a statement in his dying declaration, wherein he told police that he was kidnapped and taken to Pattipulam near Mamallapuram. Here, he was forced to get married to his ex-wife Sathya in a temple and also made to stay with her in a house in the village. Prithviraj told the police that he somehow managed to escape from the house and also that he managed to reach his Maduravoyal residence. He was so disturbed by the entire ordeal which he had to undergo, that he couldn’t sleep entire night post the incident. Thus, after returning home, he set himself ablaze, said the declaration.
Police are searching for Dhammu and Ilaiyaraaja for the same in this connection.
