A doctor working with the renowned Medanta Hospital in Gurugram ended his life over the weekend. The father of the deceased has alleged his daughter-in-law’s extra-marital affair to be the primary reason behind his son’s death.
Case:
As reported by Navbharat Times, Dr Manuj Sodhi (47) lived with his wife Monika at the Orchid Petals Society in Sector 49 of Gurugram. Manuj was a doctor by profession and was working as an intensive care specialist with the Medanta Hospital for many years. His wife is working as a teacher at a private school. The couple was married since past 22-years and has a daughter — who had been sent to Jodhpur for studies.
According to the official statement of Vinod Sodhi, Manuj’s father, his son was troubled by the illicit relationship of his wife and the couple often used to fight over the matter. Mr Sodhi accused his daughter-in-law to have triggered his son’s suicide and has filed an official complaint in the said matter. Manuj’s parents live in Bhiwadi, Haryana.
Father’s Allegations
According to Mr Sodhi, Manuj visited their house one day and poured his heart out to parents. Incidentally, the daughter who is now studying at Jodhpur had alerted her father of her mother’s affair.
Manuj was mentally disturbed after learning about this and his troubled state of mind continued for three long years. The daughter was also sent away from home to be kept away from this matter.
In August this year, the now deceased son discussed everything with his parents, where he informed them that his wife was not willing to understand anything. Manuj also told them that he would have never learnt about this, if the daughter had not given him a heads up.

On the morning of November 21, Manuj’s neighbour called Mr Sodhi and intimated him that his son had become unconscious. The father immediately reached Gurugram on hearing this and rushed Manuj to a hospital.
However, the man had already injected himself, due to which his health had deteriorated. Manuj died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police Investigation
Sector 50 police reached the spot after receiving information. This is when Mr Sodhi filed a case against his daughter-in-law. The police spokesperson informed media that the investigation is underway.
As reported by The Tribune India, based on Vinod Sodhi’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against Monika under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC at the Sector 50 police station. Surender Phogat, SHO, Sector 50 police station said,
Following the complaint a case has been registered but we are investigating all angles. Action will be taken as per law after verifying the facts.
