While Indians are busy in the celebration of democracy, a family in Uttar Pradesh has lost their son, their brother due to the mockery of rape laws made by some women in India.
20-year-old Yogesh Kumar hanged himself to death last week, after he was picked up by UP Police on a random rape complaint by a woman, even without the registration of an FIR.

Case:
Yogesh Kumar, originally from Aligarh, was residing in Chipyana Buzurg village in Greater Noida west. He worked at Bisrakh Bakery in this village and also lived in the same place.
On May 15, 2024, Yogesh was taken into custody on accusations of rape and sexual assault of a woman. After keeping him in the police station without an FIR through the night, Yogesh chose to end his life within the police post premises by hanging himself to death.
Following his death, Yogesh’s family came forward and narrated how their brother was being harassed by two women who worked with him at the same bakery. The victim’s family then submitted a complaint against these two women, including the one who had alleged false rape and sexual assault against Yogesh.
Subsequently, an FIR was lodged under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Central Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police Suniti informed media that both the accused women had been arrested on May 17 evening. Speaking with media personnels, the DCP confirmed:
Both accused women were arrested from Chipyana Buzurg village on Friday and sent to 14-days’ judicial custody after being produced before the magistrate. We are also looking into the allegations that one of the women had made against the deceased.
Elaborating on how and why Yogesh was picked up by UP Police, the DCP added:
Yogesh was called in for questioning after they received a rape complaint in Lucknow from one of his bakery colleagues.
The investigation team came to Noida from Lucknow and, as part of its probe, it had called the accused to the post for questioning on Thursday morning. He was made to sit outside and the team left the spot, with only one woman constable present with the then accused Yogesh.
It was during this time, that Yogesh went inside the post, closed the door of the room and allegedly died by suicide after hanging himself from the fan. He was rushed to a hospital, however, was declared dead on arrival.
After a life was lost, Noida police suspended four sub-inspectors stationed at the chowki and ordered an inquiry against cops, including the Station House Officer (SHO) and ACP.
On questioning the women who had filed the rape complaint, DCP Suniti said:
Some evidence has emerged that the man was being harassed by the two women, one of them has accused him of rape and sexual assault and the other is an accomplice. We also asked them to share the evidences related to the rape complaint. But they could not produce it before the police.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, another police officer shared that the inquiry was underway, and they were looking into the conduct of the police personnel at the police post in the matter. Adding further, he said that seniors were checking if due process was followed by the police personnel, right from receiving the complaint to calling him for questioning. The officer also assured that they were checking if there was any brutality on the part of police.
Statement by Yogesh’s Family
Suicide of a man will be brushed off my many as his weakness, but the reasons citied by the victim’s family will leave all of us numb. Speaking with media extensively, Yogesh’s family alleged that his two women colleagues had been were harassing him after a dispute at the bakery over their salaries.
The family also accused that the cops at the chowki had taken a bribe of Rs 53,000 and later even demanded another Rs 4.5 lakh to hush up the rape complaint.
On an emotional note, speaking with TOI, Yogesh’s brother Jitendra Kumar shared that he was taking his brother’s body back to their family’s hometown in Aligarh. Crying over the phone, Jitendra expressed that their family had fallen apart. He then added how Yogesh had plans of shifting their elderly mother with him to Noida. Quoting Jitendra, he said:
Ma ko yeh Noida laana chahta tha…ab ise aise dekh ke kya haalat hogi. Ab ma use kabhi nahi mil payegi…
(He wanted to bring our mother to Noida. How will she react seeing him like this? She will never be able to meet her son again)
Sharing their background, Jitendra said that their father works as a small farmer and these false rape charges have harmed his entire family. He also expressed, that they had only come to Noida to earn a living without knowing what destiny had instore for them.
The matter doesn’t end here. Yogesh’s second brother Dharamveer, who also worked at the Bisrakh bakery, said that the women had earlier made similar allegations as well.
Sharing the matter in detail, Dharamveer informed TOI,
The same allegations were made earlier, and a settlement was reached then. This happened around a month and a half ago. But, this time, the women went and lodged a complaint at Chipyana police post. My brother was harassed and distressed. Because of this, he took the extreme step.

Voice For Men India Take:
- The horrendous gang rape case of Nirbhaya in 2012, had prompted the then government to change rape laws literally overnight, without bearing in mind the gross abuse that was going to unfold
- There is no denial that the Nirbhaya case was so traumatic, that every single Indian, including women and men then demanded the most stringent laws against rape and sexual assault
- However, over the years, what has failed the intent of this law is the absence of reviewing the loopholes in the same
- A heinous crime such as rape (forced non consensual penetration) is clubbed with all failed consensual relationships where a disgruntled girlfriend too is empowered to charge her ex-boyfriend as rapist
- Infact, in Yogesh’s case, he was not even involved in any such relationship with the complainant, but merely paid the price for being a man
- We all will read and watch about this case, type few words in anger and forget about the same
- Let’s be clear women centric laws in India are not going to change for next few decades, until then the only way out is to make innocent men extremely strong, to face such false complaints
- We need to spread awareness amongst every man in India who is equally vulnerable at the hands of a resentful woman or a rigged system which is out there to manipulate him
