On the eve of International Women’s Day, a shocking incident came to light from Punjab, where a 33-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting women constable and also creating commotion at Chandigarh Railway Station.
As per local police, the accused Lalita, is a resident of Uttarakhand. The woman refused to pay the taxi fare and instead started arguing with the driver. The lady was adamant for not paying the fare, however when the taxi driver called out for help, two women constables reached the spot and started convincing the accused to pay up.
The woman still refused to listen to anyone present and instead started arguing with the cops. The matter did not end there. She allegedly stripped at the railway station, and also slapped and bit the women constables. On seeing this, 2 more constables hurriedly rushed to the parking lot and arrested the woman under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
Police said the incident took place when the woman refused to pay the taxi fare to a cab driver, Raman Chibbar, who called the railway police in the parking lot of Railway Station. According to GRP police officer,
Lalita came from her rented accommodation at Dhakoli in the cab. She is married but staying separate from her husband. We have seized her luggage also. Medical examination of the two women police officers confirmed injuries.
A case has been registered under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant on duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge duty), 294 (obscenity) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.

At the centre of the midnight commotion were a young woman, men from the Mumbai Police and a security guard. Videos — available on social media and retrieved from the building’s CCTV system — showed the woman, at various points, hitting a security guard, shouting and screaming at Mumbai Police officers and angrily stripping down to her underwear.
The woman had herself shared a Twitter post of the incident on October 26, 2018 and uploaded the same on on Facebook on October 28, 2018.
The Mumbai Police had replied to the lady’s October 26 post asking her to share more details privately. A day later, the Mumbai Police — replying to another of her tweets’ — said,
No one was taken to police station. Policeman visited the housing society after receiving a call on Dial 100 about a commotion in the lobby of the concerned housing society.

Reports like these are not one off cases; its just that mainstream media chooses not to report most of them, when the accused is a woman. There have also been cases, where women are taking undue advantage of their gender rights, and due to this even the male police officials refrain from taking action against them.
