Some unions are not just meant to be! Two years after their wedding, IAS Toppers Tina Dabi and Athar Khan filed for divorce with mutual consent in a family court at Jaipur in November last year. Dabi became the first-ever Dalit girl to top the UPSC examination (2015) in her first attempt itself.
The relationship which apparently blossomed at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy for Administration in Mussoorie, graduated to wedding that grabbed the attention of the nation for more than one reason. While Tina ranked first, Athar had ranked second. Many people hailed their wedding as a symbol of communal harmony.
Venkaiah Naidu, Sumitra Mahajan, Ravi Shankar Prasad had attended their wedding reception in Delhi. Then Congress President Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had congratulated the IAS couple too and tweeted,
May your love grow from strength to strength and may you be an inspiration to all Indians in this age of growing intolerance and communal hatred. God bless you.

Both Dabi and Athar were allocated to the Rajasthan cadre of the IAS. Athar, who is a year older than Tina, is from restive South Kashmir. He is a BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Tina hails from Bhopal and both her parents are in the Indian Engineering Services. She studied Political Science at Lady Shri Ram College.
Initially, both of them were in the same city, but Tina Dabi was later posted to Sri Ganganagar as Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad. Athar was posted to Jaipur as the CEO of Zila Parishad.
Marriage
Shunning inter-faith taboos, the IAS officers had married each other in Kashmir in 2018. There were three wedding receptions — the first in Jaipur which was simple court ceremony, the second in Pahalgam and the third in Delhi.
The couple had met for the first time at the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office in North Block for a felicitation function on May 11, 2015, and fell in love with each other. Dabi then quoted,
It was a love-at-first-sight. We met in the morning and by evening Aamir was at my door.

The 2015 IAS topper also said that she was floored with Khan’s wit and charm. Dabi also publicly stated that she wasn’t overly bothered about what people thought of their inter-religion love.
