A shocking revelation has been made by a young girl who hails from a migrant family from New Delhi, where she informed legal services authority how she was pressurised into giving statement that her two brothers had raped her.
The case relates to a case registered by Ernakulam North police alleging that two brothers of a migrant family selling footwear, had raped their elder sister and had misbehaved with the younger one.
Case:
The elder girl had gone missing and the case was registered after tracking her down from New Delhi and bringing her back. It was alleged by the family that police demanded Rs 5 lakhs from them and when they could not pay up, their sons were implicated in the alleged false rape case.
On the high court’s direction in a suo motu case, the secretary of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) of Thrissur, who is a sub judge, had deputed a lady officer to talk to the victims and file a report.
After perusing the report, Justice Devan Ramachandran in an order said,
It is perspicuous therefrom that the stand of the victim girls is that the elder among them made certain statements to Police Authorities, as well as to the learned Magistrate under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure, being persuaded and pressurised on account of certain inducements and promises.
The girls told the DLSA officer that their brothers are very fond of them and that they have never misbehaved with them. The girls expressed their wish to return to their family and live with their parents. As the brothers are now out on bail, with the condition that they should not enter Ernakulam district, the high court has allowed the girls to return to their family, reported TOI.
On Monday, the court pointed out that a report filed by Kochi city police commissioner does not mention about the Rs 5 lakh bribe demanded from the migrant family. The report had confirmed that the migrant family was forced to pay for the flight tickets and hotel stays of a five-member team led by an assistant sub inspector and a woman sub inspector that went to Delhi to bring back the girl. The commissioner’s report talks only about action being taken against three of the team members, the court pointed out.
