In a tragic incident reported from Punjab, a 31-year-old man died by suicide inside a police station on Tuesday. Incidentally, he was himself arrested in an abetment to suicide case.
Background:
Dilpreet Singh was arrested in an abetment to suicide case in Amritsar after his wife Paramjit Kaur also took the extreme step two days ago. He was booked under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of a complaint filed by his wife’s parents. However, on Tuesday, Singh ended his life inside the police station by consuming poison.
Before ending his life, Singh wrote a suicide note on the wall of the lock up at the police station. His family said that he took his own life as he was arrested on the basis of “false” statement.
A magisterial inquiry has been initiated in this regard.
