Mumbai city’s second all women staff post office, also known as the ‘Mahila Dakghar’, was inaugurated by operations member, Department of Posts, Arundhaty Ghosh on Saturday at Mahim Bazaar.
The post office is located in West zone of Mumbai. All the official positions at the post office, from postmaster in-charge to counter persons, will be managed by women. All departments such as Savings Bank Counters, Multipurpose registration booking counters, Aadhaar Centre, India Posts Payment Bank and Treasury work will be managed exclusively by women only.
The post office is located at a market place and residential area of Mahim Bazaar in Mahim, where all kinds of postal services will be provided by the female staff. According to officials, over 70 per cent of the visitors who arrive for service regularly are women here. All postal business counters were also made operational, with proper display of services.
Until now, Mumbai had only one all-women post office, which is located in the Fort area in South Mumbai and managed by five women employees.
Shubhangi Dhage, sub-postmaster, in charge of the post office said,
We want to thank our department and government for keeping faith in us, we will be giving all postal related services like saving banks, article booking, Aadhar centre to all our customers.
Adding further she said,
It will function like any other normal post office. Having this kind of post office will certainly make women customers comfortable while interacting with us. They won’t hesitate.
Postal Assistant Neha Kumari said,
We are proud to be part of it, all employees are female here. I was transferred from head office to here. I got this opportunity. I am really proud of being a woman.

While many will hail this as a step towards women empowerment, citing ‘Gender Equality’, we don’t realise how we are going to the other extreme by eliminating the presence of Men from virtually every field. We, as the Male gender, are fully supportive for women to equally progress and excel in whatever they do and on merit, but doing it at the cost of crushing Men doesn’t sound quite fair……..Well we know you are thinking, this is what Men have done for past so many centuries! But then don’t cry Equality please.
In the garb of grabbing media attention, each state government wants to appease only the women folk, overlooking the loss of “Equal” opportunity for the other forgotten gender, the Men. Just imagine the uproar if you ever came across any institution or pub or trains labelled as “Only For Men”!
