Lok Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty Shares His Side Through YouTube Videos; Wife Varsha Priyadarshini Files New FIR

Divorce cases in India can get very ugly, especially if you are a public figure. And if you happen to be a man accused of several allegations by your estranged wife, you can be convicted by Supreme Court of Media before any legal conviction.

One such divorce battle is once again in the news, where BJD Lok Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty has posted back to back videos on his YouTube Channel. According to Mohanty, mainstream media has been showing only allegations by wife against him, and thus he felt it was important to put out his side as well.

Video 1:

On May 19, Mohanty released a video on social media in which he broke down and poured his heart out over his ‘failed’ marriage with actress wife Varsha Priyadarshini. The actor-turned-politician said choosing life partner was the only mistake he had committed which ruined his life.

Mohanty had sought permission from the viewers for another video. Post the release of the video, there were mixed reactions, some supporting him, while some calling him out for posting videos against the actress.

Video 2:

Anubhav posted a second video on May 21, where he held Varsha responsible for the martial dispute between them. Anubhav also accused her of denying him the conjugal rights he deserved for years. In the video he said,

I was the first one to file a petition for divorce. My only reason for filing the divorce as cited in the petition was ‘non-consummation of marriage’. Even after 8 years of marriage, my life partner didn’t give me the rights that I deserve being a husband.

After we got married in 2014, she had said that since childhood she feared regarding the physical relationship. She requested me to give her some time to accept me as her husband mentally as well as physically.

I was utterly surprised after listening to such requests. How is it possible to make such a demand when a boy and girl are in deep love for such a long time? How is it possible to stay away from such a dignified and honoured relationship? Relationship between a husband and wife is highly sacred and pure.

Wife Files FIR 

Reacting to Mohanty’s videos, Varsha lodged FIR against her husband and his family at Purighat police station in Cuttack on May 22. In her seven-page FIR, she accused Anubhav of sharing concocted stories through two videos, in order to tarnish her image when the matter is sub-judice.

She also alleged that the actor has been assassinating her character by uploading such videos and giving tasteless comments in social media.

Cuttack deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Pinak Mishra on Monday informed media that the content of the complaint was being analysed. Speaking with OTV, Mishra said,

We received a written complaint from Varsha Priyadarshini at Purighat police station yesterday. We have acknowledged the complaint. We will analyse the content of the FIR and take action accordingly.

Mohanty once again took to Twitter last night and posted the court order sheets of his divorce case, which read, that initially he was the one who wanted court to restrict media coverage on his divorce case, since both him and his wife were public figures. As per the order, it was the wife who was in favour of allowing media coverage in their personal ongoing matrimonial battle. Mohanty wrote,
