In a chilling incident reported from Kolkata, a mother and her younger child have been arrested for murdering the elder son in the most gruesome and disturbing manner. The woman, who hails from a well-to-do family, was allegedly following tantric rituals, and prima facie this seems to be the reason behind the horrific murder of her own son.
Case:
Geeta Mahensaria (accused mother) and her younger son, Vidur (22), killed 25-year-old Arjun, the elder son of the family. Following a tantric ritual, the duo allegedly smashed the head of the victim and then roasted his body with spices and camphor in a big kadhai (frying pan). Lastly, they also dumped the skeleton on the terrace of their Salt Lake home.
The details of the case were unearthed by West Bengal cops, after they were looking for the missing child (Arjun), basis a complaint lodged by Geeta’s estranged husband and businessman, Anil Mahensaria.
On the evening of December 10, Bidhannagar East police found semi-charred skeletal remains of an adult male at the Mahensarias’ two-storey house at AJ Block. The investigating officers suspected that the skeleton to be of Arjun.

The mother-son duo was arrested on the same day, and presented at a Salt Lake court on December 11. State counsel Sabir Ali informed that the cops discovered a big kadhai at AJ 226 and burn marks on the first-floor prayer room. They suspected that the accused might have set the deceased on fire at this place in the house.
Arjun’s skeletons were wrapped in a towel and dragged up to the terrace. A blood-stained grindstone was also found by the team, which the officers suspect was used to kill the victim, after which he was roasted in the kadhai. An officer told TOI,
Geeta confessed that Arjun’s body was put in the kadhai. Ghee, camphor and spices were added to camouflage the smell of burnt flesh.
However, the accused mother denied all the charges made against her stating that she had nothing to do with her son’s murder and also refused to disclose the motive behind this dreadful act.
Police have booked the mother and younger son under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention). An officer also said,
We have asked the daughter, Vaidehi, to appear before us. We have to question her.
Background
Anil had been trying to contact his son Arjun, however, when he was not able to reach him, he suspected that his child had been killed in a tantric sacrifice undertaken by his wife Geeta. Mahensaria informed police,
She had started practising tantra, which soured our relationship. I left the house in 2019. My elder son suffered from multiple ailments related to heart, food pipe and neurological disorder. I suspect she must have practised some tantra and sacrificed him.

Anil also informed that Arjun used to handle their business and attended their Wood Street office two to three times a week before lockdown. However, according to a peon, for the last few days, the deceased did not visit the workplace. Rejecting any financial stress in the family, Anil quoted,
Ours is a well-to-do family. There are cars, a big house and loads of jewellery. My younger son studied in Ooty. My daughter has been getting the best of education. I don’t think there was any financial stress.
Defense
Lawyer Zakir Hussain argued that from whatever submissions the cops have made, it seemed like the woman and the son were not in the right frame of mind, having killed someone and then frying him at home. Instead of seeking their bail, the defense lawyer requested for a mental health check up of both the mother and son while they remained in police custody.
Lawyer Hussain also added that the police should continue with their investigation and should find out how Arjun died. He also urged to dig into the estranged relationship and the legal battle between the husband and wife Geeta, alleging that the woman was pushed to attempt suicide in 2005.
The police have sent the skeleton samples for a DNA test to confirm the identity of the victim. An officer concluded,
We are also awaiting a forensic report for the age of the skeleton and how the person died.
