A man in Jaipur reached local police station after he was unable to bear the harassment and domestic violence from his wife. Not just this, he also started crying loudly in front of the police officers while narrating his domestic abuse.
Most often we would witness social media laughing on such incidents, until they themselves or their family members become subjects of such pestering and intimidation.
Case:
Saurabh, who hails from Punjab, was married to Hitakshi of Jaipur in 2014. In 2019, the wife forcibly brought her husband to Jaipur to live with her relatives. Giving into the wife’s demands, Saurabh shifted with her to her parental home.
Saurabh informed the police that his wife’s behaviour changed as soon as she came to Jaipur. In just two years, he was tortured so much that now he feels like dying by suicide.
Based on the registered report, the police said that Saurabh’s wife had attacked him with a knife few days ago. On a petty matter like dying clothes, the woman even broke her husband’s hand with an iron rod. When Saurabh retaliated, the wife threatened to implicate him in a false case.
The wife even grabbed their three-year-old daughter by the neck and threatened to kill her, which left Saurabh in a state of shock.
According to the victim, his wife has taken around Rupees ten lakh from him in the past 3-4 years. The woman had allegedly taken Rupees five lakh for her brother’s business and Rupees five lakh for her mother.
According to Saurabh, his wife has been living separately in the same house since past two years. She allegedly returns home late at night and talks to several people throughout the night. When the husband questions her, she creates havoc.
Police Action
The police were initially surprised to hear these incidents narrated by the husband. However, later on the basis of his complaints, the police registered a case against the wife under other sections including assault and extortion. The police is now preparing to interrogate the wife.
India still does not recognise Domestic Violence on Men, and motivated activists keep pushing for more and more biased laws in favour of wives, by driving and fuelling emotions in social media.
