On December 15, 2020, Harshvardhan Jadhav, former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Aurangabad district in Maharashtra, was arrested in Pune on charges of attempt to murder. A 28-year-old businessman from Bopodi had filed a case with Chaturshrungi police, against 43-year-old Jadhav and 39-year-old Isha Jha, who had accompanied him.
The businessman had then alleged that Jadhav had assaulted his elderly parents aged 55 and 48, on the morning of December 14, in an alleged incident of road rage in Aundh area. Subsequently, Jadhav and the woman were booked under the same charges. While the former MLA was arrested the next day, the woman was yet to be arrested, as per an article published by The Indian Express.
After procuring bail in the said case, Jadhav has now come forward to share his side of the story. Speaking with TV9, former MLA said that he had asked for security for himself and Jha after the December incident. Jadhav quoted,
For the last year and a half, I have been mentally tortured with such false allegations. It took me around 3 to 4 months to get bail in an earlier false case. The High Court observed that the case had been registered under some political influence.
Current charges against me are also manipulated by influential people who are trying to destroy my life and image. As stated by High Court, Section 307 could not be applicable in the alleged December assault case.
Jadhav further shared that somebody is deliberately trying to trap him by filing false cases which are mentally and physically exhausting.
The former MLA who represented Kannad in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra Assembly until 2019, also stated that he is the estranged son-in-law of Union Minister and senior BJP leader from Maharashtra, Raosaheb Danve. Jadhav accused Danve behind all efforts to get him involved in false cases. Speaking about his impending divorce to Danve’s daughter, Jadhav added,
When I was imprisoned in the earlier case, I received a notice from Chatursrunghi police and it was actually from the High Court. This notice pertained to my divorce case. Such notices should not be served like this in jail and yet if court is following this practice, one should be allowed legal assistance.
I am undergoing marital issues and after struggling in a bad marriage since the last 17-years, I filed for divorce. When I visited my father-in-law in Delhi to discuss about the same, instead of understanding the situation, he verbally assaulted me and said that he will live upto his name and ensure I am ruined. He had also threatened to get me arrested there itself.
Jadhav also claims that he had approached the Delhi Police Commissioner and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) when the unpleasant incident with Danve took place. Thereafter, the police commissioner has ordered Joint Police Commissioner to look into the matter and Jadhav claims to have recordings for the same.
Besides this, Jadhav also says that the NHRC has directed the State HRC to look into this matter. According to him, Danve is a man “full of himself, who uses his position to suppress others and solves his personal life problems”.
Jadhav concluded that he won’t give up now and no matter what happens to him, he will ensure that Danve does not win Jalna Loksabha elections.
