The Gujarat police has booked a woman, who originally hails from Paldi locality of Ahmedabad and now lives in South Carolina in the US. The woman has been held by Kheda district police on charges of abetment to suicide of her husband.
The victim, Kamal Vyas (48) was allegedly tortured by his accused wife Meera Kachchhi, over a number of years, after which he decided to end his life. As reported by TOI, the couple got married in 2004 and moved to USA on a visitor’s visa.
The wife allegedly was pressurising Vyas to buy a property in the US. Kamal, on the other hand, was not in a financial position to buy a house, as he could not afford the same. Hence, on September 12, after being tired of threats and harassment, husband died by consuming poison at his home in Mahemdavad.
FIR Filed By Man’s Family
The FIR has been filed by Vyas’ brother Mayur. In the complaint, the brother states Kamal had married to Meera in 2004 in Paldi. Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to South Carolina in the US on a visitor’s visa.
After moving to the US, his sister-in-law began harassing his brother and pressurised him to buy some property in the states. However, the husband was against the idea as they were there on a visitor’s visa. The victim’s brother has further mentioned that Vyas was even forced out of their house and thereafter, he was compelled to sleep in public places in the US.
Threats Of False Cases By Wife
The wife had also allegedly resorted to giving threats to her husband if he did not give into her demands. She had even threatened to book him in false cases so that the US police would keep him behind bars for a lifetime.
Mayur has also named Meera’s brother and her parents, who were equally involved in harassment of his brother, due to which he returned to India in 2017.
