In a shocking news reported from Uttarakhand, former minister of state Hem Rajendra Bahuguna died by suicide in the presence of police by climbing up an overhead tank near his house. H M Bahugana was a senior politician and currently a roadways employee leader.
Bahuguna was hurt by the serious allegations levelled against him during an ongoing family dispute. His family members have termed the charges against him as false, which led to him ending his life.
Case:
H M Bahuguna was a resident of Bhagat Colony located in Banbhulpura police station area. He lived in the house with his wife, son and daughter-in-law.
He was a former minister of state and currently posted as senior clerk in roadways. Apart from this, he was also a businessman who owned a big bar and restaurant in the city. He was due to retire on October 31 this year.
According to the police, a family dispute was going on in Bahuguna’s house since a long time. Due to this, there were quarrels everyday between family members. According to police sources, Bahuguna was also being blackmailed for Rs 40 lakh on behalf of a family member.
Daughter-in-Law Got POCSO Case Filed On Him
Around two days before ending his life, Bahuguna’s daughter-in-law had got a POCSO case filed against him for allegedly raping his granddaughter. According to his son, the allegations were false and they had evidence for the same.
Bahuguna was allegedly very disturbed with these allegations and thus ended his life.
Suicide
On Wednesday afternoon, Bahugana climbed up an overhead tank and despite everyone convincing him to come down, he shot himself.
The police rushed him to a hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. The accused man ended his life even before the police could take the statement of the minor girl.
Relatives of the deceased have demanded strict action against whoever is behind victim’s suicide. Speaking with the media, Pankaj Bhatt, SSP, Nainital said,
Matter is being investigated. Further action will be taken on the basis of what has come out from the conversation of the family members.
Son Files Abetment To Suicide Complaint Against Wife
According to his family, Bahuguna was “depressed and hurt” following charges levelled against him by his daughter-in-law. There was another FIR registered against him on Tuesday on the complaint of a neighbour, who claimed she was “abused, threatened and attacked by him when she was walking with her mother-in-law.”
Senior district police officials told TOI that Bahuguna’s daughter-in-law is “dealing with marital discord and was living on a different floor of the house, away from her husband”.
Bahuguna’s son has filed a complaint against his wife for “abetting” the suicide of his father. SSP told TOI,
Police are going to start a probe in the matter soon.
Political Career
HR Bahuguna joined the Congress during the tenure of former Chief Minister ND Tiwari as a roadways employee. During his long stint with Congress, he served as a minister of state.
Later, Bahuguna joined the BJP and was also associated with employee organizations. He was also the state level leader of INTUC Mazdoor Sangh for a long time. He was also associated with Employees Union, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Joint Council in Roadways.
He has also been the State Secretary of the Freedom Fighter Successor Association and the former Organization Minister of the Transport Association.
