A woman from Gujarat forcibly married a man and tortured his family to an extent that the father-in-law had to take the extreme step by jumping into the Adalaj Narmada canal, in Ahmedabad. The deceased man has left behind bunch of messages to let everyone know that he was ending his life because of the torture he and his family had faced.
Last week, the body of Devendra Ojha, a resident of Ranip area, was found near the Narmada canal. A complaint has been lodged with Sabarmati police based on the statement of his son, Rohan. He stated that a woman who forced him to marry her without his consent, used to constantly harass his father. This resulted in Ojha ending his life by jumping into the canal. Cops are investigating the case.
Background
As informed by Rohan, he got engaged to a woman named, Bhumika Prajapati recently. However, soon after the engagement there were some disputes between the two families and the engagement was called off. Bhumika then allegedly blackmailed Rohan to marry her. According to the boy, the woman was constantly threatening the family with threats of false cases. He said Bhumika would tell him,
We have been together for 8-months, so now if you do not marry me, I will defame you by registering a case against you and your father.
Not only this, Bhumika also allegedly threatened to kill Rohan’s father. He quoted:
At the same time she started calling me to her home by threatening to kill my father.

Rohan who feared for his father’s life and loss of job, went to meet her. Bhumika, on the other hand, was well prepared with all the paper work that was required to get married, and she forcibly made Rohan sign on the papers as well.
When Devendra learnt about the news of his son’s forced marriage, he got furious and evicted him from his
property.
Father Ends Life
During the lockdown, Rohan had lost his job and also tested Corona positive. This made him turn to his father, Devendrabhai, for help. As soon as the father got to know about his son’s condition, he immediately took him to a hospital for treatment. However, when Bhumika got to know about this, she also reached the place, started verbally abusing her father-in-law and took Rohan away with her from the hospital.
The father ended his life and shared his pain through the WhatsApp messages. He alleged that he was troubled by continuous disturbing things happening with him and also messaged his son and family stating:
I am fed up with Bhumika and her family who are harassing us by making false accusations again and again. I have no other way left to get me and my family out of this situation, thus I am going to end my life.
Son Files Complaint Against Wife & Family
When Rohan’s family received Devendrabhai’s messages, they hurriedly started looking for him. However, they were not able to trace him anywhere. His body was later recovered from the Adalaj Canal.
The son then lodged a complaint against his wife and the people who collaborated with her in harassing the Ojha family. Police registered a case against the wife, Bhumika, her sister, Shraddha, and her brother, Brijesh.
