Noida in NCR has become notorious with several cases of honeytrap being reported and the latest one has been that of a 35-year-old Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) official.
The scientist was also held hostage for almost an entire day at an OYO hotel by a gang of five members that demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from his family.
About The Accused Woman
The mastermind woman in the case identifies herself as Sunita Gurjar or Babli on Facebook. She also claims that she is the head of local BJP “Mandal”. Her bragging does not stop here as she also projects to have made a brief appearance on Bigg Boss season 10 claiming to be a relative of the winner, Manveer Gurjar. The lady also flaunts her photographs on social media with actor Salman Khan, the show’s host.
Police Investigation
Noida BJP unit informed police that the woman was a former party worker, while Manveer’s family rejected her claims and said she merely belonged to their village.
Cops arrested three accused on Sunday night from an OYO hotel Sector 41 hotel, where Sunita was amongst them. Police are searching for the two others who ran away. According to the police investigation, the gang is believed to have cheated at least three people on the pretext of offering “massage parlour” services. It has become the second gang in the city that has been caught by the police in the last two weeks.
DRDO Scientist Rescued By Cops
Three members of the Sonu Punjaban gang were already arrested on September 15 for allegedly cheating hundreds across NCR through a similar modus operandi.
Searching online for massage parlours in the vicinity, the scientist, a resident of Supertech Capetown in Sector 74, unknowingly made contact with Sunita and her aides, informed the police. After dialling the number, he was allegedly asked to come to Logix City Center.
The scientist reached Logix in his Honda city on Saturday evening. He was driven in another car, by a man he met there, to Kunal Residency managed by OYO Rooms. The five member gang of then locked him up in a room and called his wife demanding the ransom money, said police.
Leaving his home at around 5.30 pm, the scientist had informed his wife that he was going to buy some household items. Later, at 11 pm she received the first ransom call. This was followed by a series of calls which threatened her against seeking help from police. The scientist’s wife tried arranging money for almost 14 hours, however, she approached police when she failed to do so.
After intimating the officials, three teams were formed to trace the accused, and the police put the scientist’s phone on surveillance. Agahpur in Sector 41 turned out to be the last network location of the victim. Thereafter, cops laid a trap and sent the complainant wife to the hotel with a bag full of cash. DCP Ranjivay Singh said,
Three men were standing outside the hotel and came to take the bag. Two of them managed to flee with the third, Deepak, was caught. He took cops to the room where the scientist had been kept.
The cops arrested Rakesh, the manager of the hotel along with Deepak and Sunita. Anil Sharma and Aditya Kumar are the other two accused who managed to escape. Rakesh and Deepak are brothers, hailing from Bhiwadi, Haryana.
Police said the gang had abducted three people in the past 2-3 months. Sudhir Singh, SHO of Sector 49 police station said,
They had taken the hotel on a monthly rent of Rs 1.4 lakh.
Sonu Punjaban’s gang members were arrested earlier this month, hence, cops are looking for any possible connection between them. Police disclosed that the gang chose their targets carefully. They were looking for affluent people who they knew wouldn’t approach police because the world would know they had urged for “massage parlour” services.
