Domestic Violence On Men: Bengaluru Man Uploads Video Pleading For Rescue & Help From Abusive Wife

On July 9, a Bengaluru man filmed a video of himself and got it uploaded on youtube. He urged people to help him secure himself from his wife’s brutality. He has expressed in the video alleging how his wife beats him rigorously and doesn’t allow him to talk to his parents or friends.

Here’s the full transcript of what husband has narrated.

Myself Thananjeyan, I’m making this video because I need help. I’ve been abused by my wife for a long time since marriage she has been abusing me, physically, mentally, beats me. I had a knee issue, which got a ligament tear, and I was not aware for a long time. Later, in the month of February, I came to the hospital. The doctor suggested to me that it required surgery, but it’s was not that urgent one, and I could take time and plan the same even after a year.

Thananjeyan also addressed his wife-beating him with a cricket bat on the same knee and thus, the man had to visit hospital and opt for an operation urgently. He says,

Later, during March, my wife Ramya has beaten me with a wooden cricket bat on the same knee where I had the ligament issue. And that aggravated the pain, swelling, and with an emergency, I had to go for an operation.

He also revealed how his wife never accompanied him to the hospital even after him being in immense pain and thus he had to call his friend to be with him. He also had to stay with his friend thereafter, but when the wife got to know about this, she started threatening him and his friend to make a scene, and also called the police. He quotes,

After the surgery and even during the surgery, she didn’t come to the hospital to stay with me. So, then I had to call my friend Satya. He was there with me during the surgery. Later, after the discharge, I was worried about my knee and I could not be safe with Ramya, so I stayed with my friend Sao, for almost two weeks.

Ramya called the hospital and got to know that I had left. Somehow, she also found out that I was staying with my friend. She went to a police station and made an issue. She threatened me and my friend Satya, saying how she will come to his house and make a big scene there. I was worried about the same, so I had no choice and I returned to my house.

Thananjeyan also speaks how his wife prevents their kids to be with him. He says,

She never allows the kids to be with me. She brainwashes them saying Appa (father) used to always beat you people, when you were young. Even when you were in the womb, Appa always beat you. Kids started to believe whatever she says is right. Because she never allows them to be with me.

The husband talks of his wife’s dominating nature and shares how she never allows him to talk to anybody and keeps checking his mobile all the time. He says,

She never allows me to talk to anybody, any of my family members or friends. She always checks my mobile, and I cannot make any calls to anybody. Even if somebody calls me at home, I cannot talk to anybody. It happens always, like its a continuous torture and life-threatening.

Once my mother sent a mail to the DCP office, and there was no action taken on that. And later, on July 7, she was abusing me, beating me, and she took away my mobile and walker. She made me stand on one leg, it was painful standing like that after surgery. She removed my clothes and made me stand naked and kids were looking at me and laughing.

I had no choice, somehow I got my laptop and I had sent the SOS mail to my brothers, Vidyasagar, who lives in Coimbatore, and Shivshankar, who lives in Saudi, and my friend Satya, who lives in Bangalore.

Thananjeyan also shared why he was recording this video. He stated,

I’m making the video with his (Satya) mobile itself. And he’s here with me in the hospital. On July 7, I sent an SOS email, and immediately I got a response from local police station at Whitefield. An inspector called me, but I couldn’t talk to him, as was in the other room at home, and I couldn’t talk to him loudly. He understood the situation and he said it looks like you’re not in your comfort zone, and he asked me to send a text message.

By then she came and snatched the mobile, and I couldn’t send any messages. Later I went to take bath and when I came out the door was locked from inside. She locked me when the police arrived at our home. She didn’t let them enter the home. She told the police it was all okay.

Then my friend Satya had come there, and he asked the police to go inside and check. Until then the police were not interested to come inside and talk to me. Later, with Satya’s continuous request, the police came inside and opened the door of the balcony and I came out, and they asked me to talk.

He further states, how his wife was not letting him speak with the police and abusing him. The police threatened me not talk to my friend, since he was not a family member. Later, the police officer asked Ramya to go out for two minutes as he wanted to talk to me. But, Ramya didn’t allow for that and police couldn’t do anything as she was abusing. He says,

The police said it’s your family matter, so you should talk and decide. I said the only thing I want is that she shouldn’t snatch the mobile, laptop, and walker. And she should allow me to talk to my family members. Immediately, after the police left, she snatched the mobile, walker, laptop again.

Then my brothers came down to my house, and they called me. But Ramya didn’t allow me to go down alone, and she came along with me. She was abusing me in front of everyone, and my friend Satya tried to talk, but the police threatened me to tell my friend to go out of the premises.

Soon after they left, she snatched my mobile, laptop and everything. I could keep the mobile with me, but I couldn’t make a call. Later on July 8, when my mother was trying to call me and I received her call, Ramya came and she stood on my foot on which I had a surgery. She was crushing my leg when I was talking to my mom. My mother said okay fine, you don’t talk to me now, because she’s assaulting you, and I couldn’t talk to my mother also.

And today on July 9, I had an excuse to escape from home, to come to the hospital to get a doctor’s certificate from the hospital. With my condition, I’ll need immediately surgery, otherwise, I’ll be losing my leg.

Lastly, the husband urged people to help him. He said,

I need help. Please, someone, help me. And I need help for my children as she doesn’t take care of my children and doesn’t teach them properly as well. I badly need help. Whoever is watching this video, please help me.

Many of husband’s friends started sharing this video and tagging Men’s Rights Activists on social media, which enabled Thananjeyan to get some relief. On July 10, Deepika Bhardwaj, documentary filmmaker thanked social media for amplifying the husband’s plight and confirmed that he was rescued from his home and now on his way to his brother’s place in Coimbatore.
