Domestic Violence By Women On Men Increased By Three Times In Past Decade | Report

As per the latest media report from Dailymail, domestic abuse by women has increased tremendously in UK in the past decade as the police data reveals so. According to the latest numbers reported, females carry out nearly a third of attacks as against the Male gender.

Experts have repeatedly called for Men to be recognised as victims of domestic abuse, alongside women, fearing that cases are going unreported.

Attacks by women on family members jumped three-fold from

• 27,762 in 2009 to
• 92,409 in 2018

…with a ninth of all incidents being recorded in West Yorkshire alone.

The report has been published as police forces reportedly rush to attend more than 2,000 domestic abuse cases across the UK every day.

According to another media report by The Sunday Telegraph, a ten per cent rise in the number of attacks carried out by women, jumping from 19 per cent in 2009 to 28 per cent in 2018, was also recorded in the figures.

This must be viewed as a mere snapshot of the situation in the UK, as many cases are still believed to be going un-reported. It is largely an accepted norm that Men don’t complain and even if they do, the complaints are never registered officially due to societal stigma backed by Gender Biased Laws globally.

The Myth

Domestic Violence term has somehow become synonymous only with Women, completely ignoring and overlooking that #MenToo can be prone to daily abuse, both verbal and physical. The society mocks the Male gender when they narrate such incidents and in many cases also term them as ‘Sissy’!

An estimated 1.6 million women, aged between 16 to 74, experience some form of domestic abuse every year in the UK. Around one quarter of all victims are Men. Last year in March, Mark, a 50-year-old man from London decided to narrate #HisStory to the Metro.Co.Uk. Mark was amongst the 2.4million men who have experienced domestic abuse in their lives.

A strong man who was a protector for many said how he himself never got protection against his own partner, who subjected him to physical and mental challenges of domestic abuse while living in Wales. Ultimately, this led him to leaving the woman and fleeing to England. He said,

Within days, she attacked me, punching me so hard in the face that she broke her hand. The police became involved and I was arrested.

Yes, me! It was force policy in domestic abuse situations, to remove one person from the property to prevent further escalation.

Despite Mark’s name jointly appearing on the house rent agreement, he was arrested, dragged from the house and thrown in cells until the following day. The saga didn’t end here. A girl child was born to them sometime later, and the woman refused to add Mark’s name to the baby, claiming the child to be solely her own.

In several such cases reported abroad as well as in India, Men fear appearing unmanly, feel ashamed or embarrassed since they believe it is their failure to live up to masculine ideals. It’s time that society starts treating Domestic Violence as Gender Neutral, instead of labelling only the Men as the perpetrators.

While on one end, the endless fake feminism drama refuses to die, on the other hand, Men unfortunately find it easier to just end their lives fearing police harassment, jail and social media/media shaming.
