What is ‘Feminism’? A movement that begun with an aim to empowering women, is losing its ground today, not just with men but with several women as well. The idea of feminism can vary from people to people, however, if the same is comprehended in a positive way, it is always encouraged by society. The minute feminism tries to bash men or blame the other gender for every other failure of theirs, the same turns into a perpetual a victim card that can be flashed at any given point in time.
Some months ago, a girl named Divyangna Trivedi stirred a lot of controversy online, after she posted her video on ‘I am against today’s Feminism’. The video which went viral argued against something she called:
Today’s feminism – male-bashing, women supremacy, and gender bias.
Who Is Divyangna Trivedi?
Divyangna is an 18 year-old girl who hails from Himachal Pradesh. A student of law, the teenager projects herself as a human rights activist. She is also an author of the book named The Combo of problems: An optimistic Approach is a must followed by legal assistance.
On May 15, the girl had posted a video on instagram which went completely viral with nearly a million views in just ten days. Divyangna was then massively trolled on social media for her video for putting across a contrary view of what she thought the term Feminism has been reduced to!
In her 8-minute long video she spoke about how people today understand Feminism and how it is not about equality and has just became a term for privileged sector of people in the society. Alongside the video, she also posted:
I AM AGAINST TODAY’s feminism
Well, the topic might trigger you right away but please listen to the facts before you react.
My intention is to resolve the differences which have occurred due to this vague concept called feminism which is so fake today. If your concept was just about uplifting the weaker and suppressed I would have accepted your words and concept under this rubric but, The reality is very different from what you say you promote on paper. Please stop being dogmatic girls, if you respect everyone only then you’ll be respected by everyone. I am in no way letting the male criminals go Scott free but a lot of people have already spoken about that so I chose to voice an underrated fact. Please live in harmony, don’t expect to get respect just because you’re of a particular gender. Earn what you want.
Learn to take things logically and practically. I am not against females but females bullying men under this fake agenda which is no more about equality.
With her recent debut on twitter on September 18, 2020. the young girl faced massive backlash from several handles who swore to be feminists. Some of the tweets posted by Divyangna read as below:
However, soon her account could not be traced and later it was learnt that several feminists had allegedly mass reported her account. Speaking with Men’s Day Out, Divyangna said:
I believe in gender equality and I believe Feminism today has become more about misandry. And they’ve lost the essence. Also I feel like they are making it a holistic term whereas their ideology is female centric. They fail to recognise that other genders face injustice as well, these feminists use the woman card to stay right all the time.
Moreover they are teaching the upcoming generation that men are rapists. I read a post where a Feminist said that “one should not breastfeed boys because he’ll grow up to be a rapist”. So I feel like they are promoting hate towards men and not patriarchy anymore.Because I’m a female, and if a man would have said what I did, they would have been able to call him a misogynist and rapist and not let the real issue come up. Since feminism is a female centric agenda, a female makes more impact in pointing out the real flaws today.
Here are some of the comments that were posted by feminists against the human rights activist:

To hear an upper middle class girl on instagram call feminism : ‘misandry’ after being educated and employed (rights that feminism won us) and reduce rape cases like Nirbhaya’s to a ‘comeback’ reeks so much of privilege that I had to cleanse my senses with sage.#DivyangnaTrivedi— Archisha R (@RArchisha) May 22, 2020

I’ll like to let her know that feminism is not about disrespecting men but to rather remind them of the fact that women are also humans who have the right to live the way they want to AND FOR THEMSELVES. Because the truth is not many men are emphatic towards women and what the social stereotypes they are subjected to. And your comments would have some basis if women were already equal to men and treated with the same respect. As far as your respect comment goes I agree to it but there are some basic respect that every person should have which are denied to women in some backward classes….. Hope you get my point and if you don’t try searching for what women in a lot of uneducated households endure everyday…. It’s not just freedom it’s dignity and rights..
