If we call this case “One more Atul Subhash”, it will be grave injustice to several other lives that have been lost before this. But yes, India begins it’s new year with yet another #HusbandSuicide case, where a man has ended life allegedly sharing chilling details of his wife’s torture and harassment for alimony.
Puneet Khurana Suicide Case:
Puneet Khurana got married to Manika Pahwa in the year 2016. The husband owned a bakery in Delhi named, “For God’s Cake”, while the wife was his business partner. The couple also co-owned another venture named ‘Woodbox Café’ which was shut down a couple of years ago.
Puneet and Manika were married for 8-years, and had filed for mutual consent divorce six months ago. The couple did not have any children.
Husband Suicide
Khurana, who was only 40-years-old, was found hanging in his room in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area on December 31, 2024 afternoon. The local police was called in, who rushed the victim to hospital, however, he was declared dead on arrival.
Before taking his life, Puneet recorded a 59-minute and 34-second long video detailing all the alleged harassment by his estranged wife. According to Khurana’s family, Puneet had last spoken to Manika at 3am on December 31, 2024, after which he decided to abruptly end his life on the same day.
Allegations by Deceased Husband’s Family
Speaking with News Agency ANI, Khurana’s sister Leena Khattar alleged that her sister-in-law Manika had literally instigated her brother to end life. She quoted:
Manika Pahwa, her parents and her sister forced my brother, stressed him out, instigated him by saying, you can’t do anything, die by suicide if you dare.
In an chat with Republic World, Leena alleged:
My sister-in-law provoked my brother so much that he took this decision. She had signed first motion of divorce, and my brother had fulfilled all conditions. But after that she started demanding more and more money and refused to sign second divorce motion.
Manika had even threatened to get Puneet’s parents beaten up, get them thrown out of their house, send his relatives to jail, and also accuse her father of all sort of allegations.
Leena further claimed that police was not registering FIR nor sharing Puneet’s last video with the family.
Shockingly, Leena also shared that Pahwa family had done the same with Manika’s elder sister Kanika Pahwa’s husband during her divorce. Leena accused the Pahwa family of grabbing the other son-in-law’s residential floor and also did not permit him to meet with his two children… She quoted: “We lost our brother, but the other son-in-law also lost a lot…”
WATCH FULL INTERVIEW:
Before ending life, Puneet shot a video on his phone, where he expressed all details about how Manika and his parents pressured him mentally.
Leena claimed the division of the business had been laid out clearly, but Manika kept asking for her share from the other part too. She said:
They earlier ran the bakery business in partnership. But when the first motion for divorce was signed, it was decided and put in writing that Puneet would manage For God’s Bakery and Manika would get Woodbox Cafe. It was signed.
Even after that, she kept saying that she won’t leave her other share. When the matter had been decided in court, go and raise the issue there. She kept calling my brother and demanded more and more of her share.
Khurana’s mother also claimed Mainka kept torturing her son and while he kept suffering in silence. The mother added:
The two shared the business, they would have disputes over it. He would not say anything openly to us, thinking we would be upset. He kept swallowing his grief. My son was doing well, but my daughter-in-law tortured him so much on Dec 31 that he took this step.
New Video Emerges Where Father-in-Law Promised ₹ 2 Crore In Exchange For House
As per an India Today report, a new video (dated October 12, 2023) has surfaced today, in which Puneet Khurana is seen speaking with his father-in-law Jagdish Pahwa regarding the transfer of ₹2 crore for a house. This house was registered in the name of Manika Pahwa and her father had initially agreed to pay ₹2 crore to Puneet in exchange of this house. However, the father-in-law allegedly went back on his promise.
Khurana’s family also stated that Puneet was under immense pressure due to such harassment and threats from his in-laws, as they kept going back on what had been agreed as final settlement.

Wife Shared Her Social Media Post On “Toxic Abuse” Days Before Puneet’s Suicide
Interesting, Manika had taken to social media, sharing a cryptic message without naming anyone.
Pahwa shared her belief that kindness, love, and respect should be extended to everyone. She also hinted at higher powers deciding what was best for those who had wronged her. Her post read as follows:
I am alive, healing well, even after all the toxicity and narcissistic abuse, I am striving every day, every second, to be better and to be indifferent.
Well feminism suits me, as idealistic values are my core & feminism means giving & getting mere respect to one another. No slave treatment, and no stopping some girl to speak her mind (sic). Even a house help, guard, rikshawala, a tiny kid deserves respectful treatment.
Once a coward fought with me that ‘respect has to be earned’. Ufff! What disgrace na? I disagree, respect has to be given to each and everyone. If not then you lost the respect baby. Phew! Maybe that’s why in India, we address people with ‘aap’, ‘bhaiya’, ‘didi’ to even strangers, isn’t it?
Manika further wished that “these abusers get to see the mirror someday” and understand the value of kindness, love, understanding, trust, wisdom, affection and care, adding that they are more important than money, property and gold.
This woman centric post was widely shared by feminist portals.
Status of FIR as on Jan 2, 2025
Until now, no FIR has been registered against any accused by Delhi Police. The post mortem process has also been delayed. The Khurana Family is not willing to cremate Puneet’s body, until police shares his last 59-minute video with them.

VOICE FOR MEN INDIA TAKE:
- This is sadly not the first, not the last #HusbandSuicide incident
- When Atul Subhash ended his life last month, a vile campaign was run against him, attributing his suicide to ‘mental illness’
- If suicide is a result of mental illness, then no husband should be arrested for the suicide of his wife as well
- Unfortunately, a section of our heavily biased feminist media, either have no clue about the existing situation of men fighting their divorce battles, or this section of media is so motivated with deeply rooted hate against the male gender, that they go to the extent of defaming the deceased man and his family as well
- While no one in their wildest dreams would wish death for anyone, the pain of these families will only be felt if the trauma becomes personal
- Maintenance and Alimony laws were created to help women in distress
- However, today the same have been reduced to tools in the hands of not just estranged wives, but their lawyers, police and also wife’s jobless family members, who are all feeding off from a helpless separated husband’s income
- What can we do as a society until these laws change? Start questioning the other side whenever you see one-sided social media posts victimising only the woman
- If a woman is separated and sitting idle at home, stop hailing her as an epitome of empowerment; It is not her achievement, but entitlement given to her by a politically and woman voter motivated system
