What is the first image that we get when we hear the term “Domestic Violence”? Sadly, our minds have been moulded into visualising a man beating a woman – as the only form of domestic abuse.
While, one cannot deny the above, however, the reverse is equally rampant, and daughters beating up their own elderly parents is also a reality. One such case has been reported from Kerala, earlier this month.
Here’s What Happened
An old woman was tied up and beaten by her daughter in the Pathanapuram district of Kerala.
The victim identified as Leelamma, a native of Nedumparambu, was tied to a pole by her daughter Leena in the backyard of their home and also beaten.
When a local panchayat member Arsha Mol tried to intervene, the daughter assaulted her as well. The injured panchayat member was then rushed to a hospital where she underwent treatment.
According to Leelamma, her daughter constantly harassed her for property.
Pathanapuram police have registered a case against the accused daughter and started an investigation. The Human Rights Commission has also registered a case in the mater. The commission member issued an order to the Kollam Rural District Police Chief, directing them to submit a report within 15-days.
