A woman and her brother have been arrested by Chandigarh police for stabbing her husband with a pair of scissors in Sector 25 on Thursday noon. The accused siblings were presented before a local court on Friday.
As informed by the local police, the attack was due to a marital dispute between the husband and wife. However, police are investigating and digging the matter further. As seen in the video, the incident that occurred in the middle of the road, has several eye-witnesses. Some bystanders also recorded the footage of the man getting stabbed by his wife and brother-in-law on their mobile phones. The same was then circulated all over social media.
Case Details:
The accused have been identified as Renu and her brother Ankit Pohilla of Sector 56. The viral video clearly shows the accused brother stabbing his brother-in-law and the victim, Deepak Chand who is also a resident of the same vicinity. The accused wife, Renu was also seen assaulting his husband along with her brother.
The stabbing took place with scissors in full public view in the parking area of husband’s office in Sector 25.
While the entire incident was taking place, people who were present at the crime scene were expected to help the victim. However, instead of intervening and stopping Ankit from stabbing, most of them were
videographing the attempt to murder.
Some people later gathered and informed the police on 112. A PCR reached the spot and Deepak was immediately rushed to GMSH-16. The doctors gave him treatment and found husband to be stable. Sector 11 police reached the hospital and recorded his statement.
Deepak, in his statement, has alleged that he works at a coaching centre in Sector 25, where his brother-in-law Ankit had reached on Thursday afternoon. Ankit called him to come out of the office at around 1.30 pm. When Deepak reached the parking lot of his office and was talking to Ankit and wife Renu, brother-in-law allegedly sprinkled chilli powder in his eyes. Subsequently, the brother-sister duo started assaulting the husband with scissors on his neck and other body parts.
Police has arrested Renu and Ankit and a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the two. Police investigation disclosed that Renu and Deepak had problems within their marriage. However, since the exact reason behind the attack has not been clarified, the investigation is still underway.
