Last month in December 2020, a police constable from Madhya Pradesh had applied for leave wherein he mentioned that if he did not attend his brother-in-law’s wedding ceremonies, he would be welcoming domestic dispute in his own marital life. The application letter submitted by the constable, dated December 7, had then gone viral over social media.
Case:
The constable identified as Dilip Kumar Ahirwar had written an application addressed to Deputy Inspector General of Police requesting for personal leave from December 11. In the letter, Ahirwar urged his superiors to grant the leave as he did not want to face dire consequences from his wife, for not attending his brother-in-law’s wedding.
DGP Upendra Jain said,
The wife of the applicant has made it clear that if he (applicant) does not attend the wedding of her brother, he will have to face consequences.

The leave application went viral over social media and most of them turned this into a joke. Further, the constable’s superiors also took disciplinary action against him for the said letter.
ADG Jain informed media that the constable who wrote to the DIG for leave, belong to the traffic police team. The leave was not granted, and the man was also punished on disciplinary grounds.
Another Senior Officer, Irshad Wali found the language in the application as offensive, hence, Ahriwar was taken off duty and sent to the Police Lines as a part of action on disciplinary grounds. ADG Jain said,
He has been moved to the police line as his behaviour was uncalled for. Firstly, he made such an application which is not the most appropriate way to make an application and then he himself got it circulated in the media circles.
Another senior official told Dainik Bhaskar that the constable had gone on leave in the past after coming up with unique excuses.
In the last 11 months, he has taken 55 days off.
