In a heart-wrenching case from Palakkad, Kerala, a mother has been arrested for murdering her own daughter because there was a dispute between her and her live-in partner, who also happens to be the father of the deceased child.
Shockingly, a whatsapp message from the accused mother revealed all details of the crime.
Case:
Shilpa, (30), works as a therapist in a private firm. She was in a live-in relationship with Ajmal, who works as a theatre employee. The couple was living together since 2022 and also had one and a half year old daughter named Shikanya.
However, due to differences between the two, the couple had been living separately from the past six months.
Murder
On February 16, Shilpa suffocated her own daughter to death because she allegedly considered the baby to be a burden on her while she would have gone for work.
After the murder, she sent the below message to her live-in partner, which was traced later by the police. The message read:
Our daughter is dead; I killed my daughter. Aju, our daughter has gone.
Ajmal received this message on early Saturday morning, but did not believe the same.
Later at 09.30am on Saturday, Shilpa visited Ajmal’s work place with their dead daughter. Ajmal found that something was strange as the daughter was not moving or crying at all. Instantly, he called Shoranur police as he suspected something miserable.

Police Investigation
The medical officer confirmed that the child was dead long before she was brought to the hospital.
Instantly, the police arrested Shilpa and interrogated her about what had happened. Since there were no injury marks on the baby, the police assumed she died of cardiac arrest. Shilpa was then let off, but under surveillance of the police. The post mortem report was also awaited at this point in time.
Speaking with Onmanorama portal, a senior official from the Shoranur police station said:
We have now got information that Shilpa came to Shoranur from Alappuzha in a rented car. We understand that the baby must have lost her life even before she boarded the car from Alappuzha which is around five hours away from Shoranur. We are searching for the car and its driver.
A friend of Ajmal who saw Shilpa coming out of the car noticed that the car driver fled the scene soon after pulling out Shilpa’s luggage bag. We suspect the driver also has a role in the incident.
The police is also investigating allegations of Shilpa being a drug addict.
Voice For Men India Take:
- Crime is a crime and crime should never be seen through the lens of gender
- Most often when a mother murders her own child, society promptly gives her a sympathy chit, assuming her husband/partner to be the abusive force that prompts a woman to kill her baby
- Many a times, accused women also instantly take shelter under the garb of ‘mental illness’ or ‘depression’
- Its time murderers of children, irrespective of their gender, should get the harshest punishment
