Many of you would have come across a viral video from Karnataka where a bus conductor and a female passenger were embroiled in a physical fight.
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) suspended the conductor on Tuesday following outrage by many netizens. However, another section of the social media users have questioned action only against the conductor, while it was the female passenger who slapped him first as seen in the video.
Case:
On Monday, a female passenger was travelling from Bilekalli to Shivajinagar in Bengaluru. She reportedly argued with the conductor about her ticket.
In the video that has gone viral, the woman can be heard shouting in Hindi…
How dare you hit me!
We can also see other passengers trying to calm the conductor down.
Both Slap Each Other
The altercation soon turns physical, where the woman slaps the conductor and in retaliation, the conductor thrashes her back. Subsequently, the female passenger reports the assault to the Siddapur police.
Conductor Suspended
On Tuesday, the BMTC released their statement announcing suspension of the conductor. The press release read as follows:
Based on the said social media news, disciplinary action has been reserved against Mr Honnappa Nagappa Agasar, conductor, with immediate effect ‘suspended.
Adding further, the press letter read:
Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is prioritising the safety of women passengers. The corporation has taken measures like separate seating for women in buses, separate doors, installation of panic button, CCTV, installation of information boards, women’s rest room at major bus stations, helpline. Necessary steps are taken to ensure that women passengers feel safe travelling in company buses.
It also added:
Bangalore’s transport corporation, committed to women’s safety and comfort on board, mandates “gender sensitization training” for its entire driving staff of 27,000.
Our corporation has given priority to the safety of women, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of any kind of violence, rude behaviour and untoward incidents against women passengers.
Voice For Men India Opinion:
- Since the video does not capture entire arguments from its initiation, it will be unfair to support either sides
- However, if authorities are promptly taking action for physical assaults based on social media viral videos, (that could be one-sided), there must be equal repercussions on both parties for indulging in physical fights
- Should women get a ‘free pass’ for attacking male conductors on duty? A thought to ponder!

SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS:
Conductor was standing quietly. It's that Urdu lady who was abusing and she slapped the conductor first. The conductor simply replied to her in the same language she knows. Eedina can't say the truth because that lady belongs to their own Bandhava community.

As per conductor woman was not showing I'd card which is required by law and claiming for free ticket. The conductor asked her to pay for ticket as per rule. That's it lady attacked him. He retaliated , Now conductor only got suspended and slapped with case..

Although the woman beat him first, the conductor, in my opinion, should have shown more patience and restraint instead of retaliating mercilessly, especially considering that we encounter various individuals in the public sector on a daily basis.
