Jet Airways, India’s once upon a time most preferred airline for corporate heads, is going to be back in the skies soon. After being out of business under a pile of debt since 2019, the airline has re-started its hiring process again.
However, a gendered hiring has not gone down well with the male aspirants who were looking forward to joining the airline.
Statement by Jet Airways
In its measure “to save costs and at the same time offer the best of services”, the airline will be currently hiring only female cabin crews for flights so that they can “save costs on hotel rooms”.
Hiring both male and female cabin crews would mean assigning separate rooms for the male and female members. Thus, Jet airways has decided to hire only female cabin crew staff at the moment, so they can manage hotel costs with a lesser number of rooms.
Sanjiv Kapoor, CEO, Jet Airways, took to twitter to clarify the gender discrimination in the hiring by the airline. He said as soon Jet Airways reaches a certain operational scale, they will start hiring male cabin crews as well.
Rebutting to one of the articles which pointed out exclusion of male candidates, Kapoor tweeted,
Sharing of rooms by cabin crew is standard in India for most airlines. Only senior / lead crew get single rooms. Crew in India get company provided transport, in the West they don’t. Horses for courses, cannot judge by a single cultural yardstick.

When one of the social media users categorically asked Kapoor “Where are the Male cabin crew?”, the CEO responded by saying,
Male cabin crew will be hired as well once we get to a certain operational scale, to optimize hotel costs etc. Same as was done at my previous airline. Thanks.

Jet Airways is planning to start operations from July 2022. In a recent tweet, the company has also announced that it is hiring for operational roles and has invited applications. In the notice, Jet Airways has told interested applicants to keep an eye on the social media handles of the airline for new openings. It has also encouraged the earlier employees of Jet Airways to reapply in the company.
MDO Take:
- We completely respect decisions made by the business, because they know best what will secure them in their journey ahead
- However, what we object to is the absolute silence of CXOs, when they are bullied by media/social media to forcefully hire women, all in the name of equality and empowerment – even if the same is not sustainable for the business
- Most succumb to the pressures of feminist bullies and give in, even if female candidates do not match up the required role
- Conclusion of such gendered hiring will be looked upon as Business Calls when women are at advantage, however, if the same is reversed, the brand would have been slammed and possibly by now Mr Kapoor would have tweeted a public apology
- Men are living in an era, where Female Privilege is Empowerment, while anything Equal deprived to Men is “Horses for courses, cannot judge by a single cultural yardstick”
