Tele Actors Vivian Dsena and Vahbiz Dorabjee have finally got divorced as per recent media reports. The marriage lasted for three years, however, the two were living their separate lives since 2016.
Through a joint statement, Vivian and Vahbiz asked their fans to not blame anyone or speculate the reason behind their separation. They also stated that they made their best efforts to save the relationship but they could not. The statement reads,
It is with hearts full of sadness that we announce that we have legally separated and are now divorced. We have been working hard, for well over a few years, to see what might have been possible between us and we have come to the conclusion that we would like to continue our life journeys separately.
The statement further mentioned that it was a mutual decision. It stated,
It is a mutual decision and there is no need to choose sides or denounce one another and argue over who is to blame and the reasons for our separation. We ask our fans for their understanding. We have conducted our relationship privately and it is difficult for us to discuss details of our personal life.
We hope we are able to continue doing our work in the same manner with the love and support of all our fans.
Background:
The duo found love on the sets of their TV show Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani and tied the knot in the year 2013. The two stars were deeply in love with each other and made for a perfect couple. However, their married journey together soon came to an end. After three years of their wedding, Vivian and Vahbiz decided to part ways. The two have been living separately since 2016 and are officially divorced only last month (December 2021).
Speaking to the media, Vivian said that the chapter has ended for good, while Vahbiz also made a statement on similar lines stating that their marriage is a close chapter now.
It must be recalled, that out of several charges, Vahbiz had charged Vivian of Domestic Violence as well.
Alimony Demand (2019)
In April 2019, Vahbiz had put out an instagram post asking social media users not to troll her for demanding alimony from her estranged husband. Clarifying the buzz around Rs 2 crore alimony demand by her, Vahbiz then said that somebody was trying to sabotage her image.
In a conversation with Times Of India, Vahbiz had expressed her anger by saying,
There’s not much truth to the story that is floating in the media related to the alimony. I am enraged and I kept quiet for way too long. I always thought someday this will come to an end and it will stop, but it is going on. People are writing rubbish stuff without even trying to talk to me. I am very upset with the irresponsible journalism that people are doing. It’s better I speak now. There’s not much truth about the rumour of alimony. Yes, the divorce is not through and there are reasons for it. The matter is in court and I don’t want to disrespect it.
People talk about women empowerment. So many celebrity divorces have happened I don’t understand why nobody questioned them. Am I the only celebrity who is getting divorced or has asked for alimony. Didn’t they belong to an affluent or well-to-do families. Why no one questioned them. Can’t I think about my security and well-being? Don’t I have emotions?
Adding further, Dorabjee also quoted,
Somebody is trying to sabotage my image. They are trying to pressurise me by leaking out this unnecessary hyped false news. People are telling me that you belong to such an affluent and rich family why do you have to ask for alimony. I mean seriously! I just want to ask that if a girl from a normal family would have done the same, would they have questioned her as well. I am his wife and his responsibility.
If the marriage has not worked, it is because of both of us and only one person can’t be blamed for it. People have a problem that I belong to a well-off family, but I want to tell them that it doesn’t matter and doesn’t take away my right as his wife. They can’t ask me, how much I have asked for or what is he paying me because it is nobody’s business.
Vahbiz had ended her instagram post using some of the hashtags namely, #CelebrateBeingAWoman #StandUpForYourself #FightForJustice
Now that the divorce has come through, the actress has requested the media to stop speculating about them and respect their privacy.
MDO Take:
- Law of the land permits married woman to claim maintenance and alimony even if she has been married for one day
- Thus, Vahbiz is not legally wrong in claiming to “Fight for her Rights”
- However, on one hand we speak about Equality, Women Empowerment, etc. and on other hand, working and earning women demand money from an equal partner, if the marriage fails
- Should women in short lived marriages, without children, be entitled to alimony?
- As the tele actress rightly said, marriage fails due to both partners and not one individual — then why penalise only the man to pay up?
- Its time women stop playing the victim card, as divorce is equally traumatic, painful and horror for the Men when the matter reaches court
