God could not be anywhere, so he made Mothers! Well, no one would doubt this statement, however, certain cases as the below, makes one realise to what extent some women could go to unleash their anger, even if it means by hurting their child.
A special team of police from Sathyamangalam near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old woman from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh who was seen beating up her two-year-old child in a video that is now viral. The accused, identified as Thulasi, is expected to be produced before the criminal court in Gingee on Monday.
Case:
Married in 2016, the couple had been living in Manalapadi village near Gingee taluk in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district. They have an older child aged four and a 2-year-old son (seen in the viral video).
Two days ago, Thulasi’s husband Vadivazhagan had registered a complaint against his wife at Sathyamangalam police station in which he said that the couple had a difference of opinion after which he dropped Thulasi at her mother’s home around 40-days ago.
On August 28, the father came across videos in Thulasi’s phone where she was seen mercilessly beating up their younger child. Vadivazhagan claimed that on February 22 the toddler had suffered injuries on his knees for which he was given medical treatment, and prior to that he had been found with wounds on his mouth as well. After seeing the videos, Vadivazhagan realised that Thulasi had caused the injuries.
About the Video
The heart-wrenching video showed Thulasi brutally beating her 18-months-old old baby with her fist. Her blows were so hard that the baby started to bleed from nose and mouth. The child’s back showed scars from the beating. Shockingly, Thulasi used to hit her child often and had also recorded it on her mobile phone.

According to a report in ABP Nadu, Thulasi was reportedly talking to another man over the phone and this led to an altercation between the couple. Vadivazhagan reportedly told her to stop interacting with the man. However, after the altercation, Thulasi instead reportedly beat Pradeep and took a video of the incident three months ago.
Police Action
The video was viral on whatsapp as well as Twitter through the weekend where netizens were furious with the visuals and demanded immediate arrest. Later, the police said she was picked up from her mother’s residence.
Based on the complaint received, the police registered an FIR and booked the woman under:
- Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt)
- Section 355 (assault with intent to dishonour person)
- Section 308 (culpable homicide)
…of the Indian Penal Code and
- Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015
Following her arrest, Thulasi was brought to Gingee and taken for psychiatric consultation. Further investigation is underway.
