An 18-year-old woman from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh filed a rape case against her husband, after parents forcefully got her married without her consent. The incident occurred in Kamla Nagar area of Piplani where the complainant stayed with her husband.
Case:
The woman belongs Betul district and post her marriage, the couple lived in Piplani. However, soon the husband got a job at a private firm and they moved to Indore. Within a few days, the woman left Indore, returned to Betul district and lodged a rape complaint against her husband.
TI Chain Singh Raghuvanshi of Piplani police station said,
Betul police has registered the case. An 18-year-old woman had complained of being raped in Piplani area. She also informed us that she had eloped with another man living in her village on December 27, 2020, however, police traced her from Bhopal and handed her over to her family members then.
The parents were not in favour of her relationship and thus she had run away from her home with the lover. Upon being handed over to her parents, they got the lover booked for raping their daughter several times.
Later, the woman’s parents fixed her marriage without her consent to someone named Anil and got them married on April 27, 2021. The man was said to be already married earlier.
Both Men Charged With Rape
Betul police arrested the lover and presented him in court, from where he was sent to jail. In the interim, the family members got the woman married to Anil. After living with him for two-months, woman filed rape complaint against her husband. She claimed that she was raped several times during her stay with Anil. Police has begun search for the husband.
Initial investigation revealed that the lover – after being released from jail – had been in contact with the complainant woman again.
MDO Take –
- We do not support marriage without consent of any adult
- However, the above article raises questions whether rape laws are being misused? – Where parents wanted to fix the lover, or when woman wanted to fix her already married husband
