Delhi BJP Leader Gurvinder Singh Bawa Dies By Suicide Due To Alleged Family Dispute

According to a latest TOI report, a BJP Functionary from west Delhi hanged himself to death at a park in the capital. The incident took place on Monday evening at Hari Nagar in the city.

58-year-old Gurvinder Singh Bawa, a resident of Fateh Nagar ended his life due to alleged family dispute. According to senior police officer, Singh’s body was found hanging at Jheel Wala park following a minor dispute with his family.

Gurvinder Singh was the head of Legal Department of BJP’s West district unit. An inquiry is underway and the exact cause of his death will be ascertained after a post-mortem examination.

According to NCRB report 2019 – 98,000 men died by suicide, where top reason had been attributed to family dispute. Yet, India does not recognise domestic violence on Men. There is no commission or forum where men can approach with their personal problems, be it with spouse or in-laws or others.

To top it all, we only have a commission for women, which makes it further biased against the other gender. The prejudice against that male gender and the narrative that only men can be domestic abusers, needs to be tackled by the government at the centre and state levels. Until then, men will keep feeling trapped, suffocated and helpless, especially when almost every law today favours the women.
