A shocking incident has been reported from Dhanbad in Jharkhand, where a mother asked her minor daughter to record her fake suicide video to allegedly frighten her husband. However, tragically the woman lost her life during the incident.
The matter has been reported from Ramakanali filter plant in Katras.
Case:
36-year-old Tara Devi, was pretending to shoot her own suicide video, recorded by her 7-year-old daughter Neha to allegedly threaten Manoj Mahato, her husband. Manoj was Tara’s second husband who had visited the family on Thursday evening.
As per report, the mother was having a fight with the father over her maintenance expenses and she had threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay up. Later on Friday morning, Tara took blessings of her deity and asked her minor daughter to shoot her (mother’s) suicide video and send it to her father Manoj.
Tara started pretending as if she was hanging from a sari suspended from a pipe on the roof of the house. Unfortunately, the bucket on which she was standing while performing the fake suicide suddenly flipped and the woman got strangulated and died. Neha shouted loudly after the incident and on hearing her screams, people from the neighbourhood gathered around and informed the police about the incident.
On receiving the information, Ramakanali police immediately reached their home and brought down Tara’s body, however, it was too late by then. Her mortal remains were then sent for postmortem to Dhanbad.
The mobile from which the daughter was recording the video of suicide was seized for investigation. However, the police did not find any such video recorded on the same. After receiving the news, the family members including Tara’s mother Gauri Devi reached the incident spot and everyone was in a state of shock.
Background:
Gauri Devi said that Tara was married to one Vikas Ravidas in Hariharpur about 13-years ago. Together the couple had a son and a daughter. When the two got divorced, son was handed over to Vikas, while Neha remained in custody of Tara.
Four-years ago, Tara had a love marriage with Manoj Mahato, who was working in an outsourcing company of BCCL, at the Lilouri temple.
Manoj used to allegedly withhold household expenses in his house at Ramakanali filter plant. The deceased’s mother alleged that Mahato had stopped giving Tara money since a few days. Due to this, there were frequent fights between the two. Tara allegedly took the drastic step after being fed up. Manoj used to live with his Tara and Neha in Sijua.
MDO Take:
- In all sincerity, we feel that most women rights NGOs have failed women in India today
- Simple reason for the same, is that even today, we have maintenance and matrimonial laws which do not make women independent, instead encourage them to be totally dependent on the Men as providers for the family
- Husband’s version must be sought as allegations by deceased’s mother are one sided
- Police investigation must also analyse whether the suicide was planned or the act failed miserably leading to woman’s death
