Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested a woman who used an intricate modus operandi to earn money after losing her job during the pandemic. The accused woman used multiple dating apps to trap both men and women, and then rob them of cash and jewellery.
Case:
27-year-old Sayli Kale from Sadhu Vaswani Road in Pune was detained last week by police, after a Chennai based education career guide filed a formal complaint against her – after he had been duped.
The complainant Ashish Kumar alleged that he was made to have a drink in a room at a hotel in Wakad where he fell unconscious and subsequently, the woman robbed him of his valuables. Sayli was formally arrested by Pune Police (unit 4) on Tuesday this week.
Krishna Prakash, police commissioner (CP) of Pimpri-Chinchwad said that during the interrogation of the accused, officials learnt how the woman had trapped 16 men and women. After police urged people to lodge formal complaints, at least four more men came forward and registered official cases. While the accused trapped both genders through dating apps, no woman has come forward yet with a complaint. Prakash added,
Our crime branch team had created different profiles on Bumble and Tinder dating apps. At first, the accused woman did not accept a friend request, but when the police team created fake profiles in the name of women, she accepted the requests.
After that, the woman was called to meet for a for a date, and the cops lost no time in arresting her. The woman earlier used to work in a telecom company. After the lockdown, she did not have a job. In the last one year, she robbed 16 men in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad through dating apps. The police have seized a total amount of Rs 15,25,000 in cash in cash from the accused, besides 289 grams of gold and cell phones.
