Mothers are supposed to be next to Gods, at least thats what society drills into our heads from childhood. While role of both parents is equally important in a child’s life, somewhere we have placed mothers of a pedestal way higher than men.
However, what we do forget is, both parents are human and can have their respective traits, good or bad. No one should be given labels merely because of their Gender. Here’s one such story from Kerala which completely shatters the narrative otherwise.
Case:
A woman from Pathanamthitta in Kerala abandoned her 13-year-old and 9-year-old boys on the road and eloped with her boyfriend. Police has arrested the couple who ran away of December 14.
The accused woman has been identified as Beena from Vettippuram who left both her sons on the road near her relative’s home at Malayalappuzha and eloped with her boyfriend Ratheesh. Beena’s husband is a Gulf returnee.
After the duo travelled together to Chennai, Rameswaram, Theni and Bengaluru, they returned to Kerala. Both were then taken into custody from their friend’s house in Kadamanitta.

According to police officials, the two frequently changed their SIM Cards while they were on the run. The couple has been booked and remanded under Juvenile Justice Act (JJA).
While Beena is at Attakulangara sub-jail, her boyfriend Ratheesh has been lodged at Kottarakkara sub-jail. Beena’s lover has been earlier married twice and also named as accused in other cases.
A probe into the matter is being carried out by Pathanamthitta DySP K Sajeevan.
In a similar story reported in February this year, a 36-year-old woman had eloped with her paramour, leaving behind her 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Her husband had lodged a complaint when his wife and mother of the children went missing after she had sent the kids to school.
The police nabbed the woman and her boyfriend, who were booked under JJA.
Our Take:
- One may argue that mothers too have a right to their happiness and life
- Why shouldn’t married women with kids not be allowed to break free if a marriage is dead
- While we, at Men’s Day Out, have always believed that no relationship must be forced upon another person, irrespective of Gender, do Men/Fathers have that liberty and choice in India?
- If a man would do the same, we are prompt in name calling and labelling him as an irresponsible and careless man who dumped his family and left for another woman

- Do we realise that #MenToo perhaps deserve equal rights if a marriage has failed?
- What about responsibility as a parent? While women get away many a times on the name of freedom and empowerment, men are dragged to courts to ensure they keep footing the bills of their wife and children, even if they have been ill-treated by the family
- When we, as a society, want to sound liberal, the same should be applicable equally for both genders, if not then the same must be considered a crime whether done by a father or a mother
