On Sunday, a 35-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly filing a false case of rape and molestation against two police constables, an autorickshaw driver, and others. The case has been reported from Mumbai.
In fact, it was with the assistance of another policeman that the lady filed the false case. The accused officer has also been booked, but is yet to be arrested, said a Ghatkopar police station official.
Case:
The two constables and the autorickshaw driver were arrested last month after the woman approached Bombay High Court complaining that, on January 11, they had raped her and also molested her 11-year-old daughter on the pretext of probing a human trafficking case.
The woman further said in her complaint that the policemen had assaulted her, which led to her miscarriage.
According to an official, the case was registered at the time on directions of Bombay High Court and constables Shishupal Jagdhane and S Gavhane, an autorickshaw driver Ghure were arrested.
SIT Probe
An SIT was formed under DCP (Zone VII) Prashant Kadam to oversee and probe the case, and it was found that while Jagdhane was in UP at the time of the alleged incident, Gavhane was at the police station and the auto driver in his Sakinaka home.
The SIT called for the Call Detail Report (CDR) of all the people involved in the complaint and pulled out discrepancies in her complaint. The police said that Salma Shaikh (name changed) in her complaint has stated two dates of the incident — one was on January 12 and 15.
The SIT on Sunday arrested Shaikh after they found that she, along with a suspended police inspector Yusuf Shaikh in order to settle their personal scores, had lodged a false complaint.
The SIT in which there were even women policemen said that the victim woman’s house is just 100 meters away from Ghatkopar police station then why did not she go to file the complaint. SIT has also raised questions over the victim’s character.
The SIT then arrested the woman under section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and she has been remanded in police custody for four days, the official said.
In March Yusuf Shaikh was himself booked for rape, unnatural sex and and assault on the complaints of his second wife. Shaikh is under suspension.
