Last week, a man from Punjab ended his life after being frustrated with constant threats from wife and her family. The husband also left a voice note for his daughter in which he has named his wife and all responsible for his suicide.
Case:
Munish Sethi, 38, a trader from Ludhiana, hanged himself to death on August 25 at his residence in Sekhawal. Munish was in the business of hosiery and had been married to Deepika Sethi, 36, for 14-years. The couple has a 12-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
Soon after getting married, the wife along with her family started demanding things from her husband. Sethi, on the other hand, used to fulfil all their demands, however, whenever he failed to do so, the wife would go to her parents’ home over trivial issues.
Munish would be forced to give into her demands in order to request her return to the matrimonial home.
In the month of March this year, Deepika once again left her husband’s home along with both the children and instructed Munish to transfer all his properties and jewellery on her name. She strictly told him that she would only return once he fulfils these demands.
Sethi’s daughter would often called the father and ask him to take her away to their home. She would also tell Munish how her mother would beat her. When the father learnt about his daughter’s condition, he immediately went to Jalandhar (wife’s home), took his daughter without anyone’s knowledge and reported the matter to Daresi police station. He also filed a complaint against his wife.
Deepika, as a rebound, registered a complaint against Munish in Jalandhar police station. According to the deceased’s family, the accused and her family used to threaten Munish since some time now, due to which he was living a harassed life.
Suicide
The daughter was now living at her aunt’s (father’s sister) place and she was accompanied by her uncle when they went to serve food to her father a night before he ended his life.
Next day, Munish sent an audio message to his daughter stating that he was disturbed by his wife and her family and hence, he was ending his life. When the family heard this message, they all rushed to Sethi’s home. He had locked his house from inside, but they tried to enter the house somehow. It was too late and by then Munish had already hung himself.
According to ASI Gurwider Singh, wife and her family have been booked on charges of abetment to suicide. Police has filed a case against wife Deepika Sethi, her mother Madhubala, father Mulk Raj, brothers Deepak Kumar, Rishu Chaudhary and Deepak’s wife Tanika Sharma, in connection with the case, on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased Sethi’s nephew Shubham Gulati. Police is on a lookout for the accused.
Meanwhile, cops had handed over the body of the deceased to his family.
