19-Year-Old AMU Student Moves Court After 29-Year-Old Woman Forces Him To Marry Her

A college-going boy from Aligarh has pleaded to save himself from an older woman who is forcing him to marry her. As per the boy, no police station has agreed to file his FIR, and thus he had to move court to get legal relief. The boy’s family is stressed and he is in depression.

A case of harassment has been reported from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, where a 19-year-old college going boy was seen pleading for his life. Mohammad Adil Ullah is a student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who has accused a woman — ten years older to him — of forcing him to marry her against his will. According to Adil, despite being very young, the woman has been threatening to file a false rape case against him and put him behind bars, if he does not accept the demand of marrying her.

Adil has reportedly been in depression due to this, and his family is stressed out figuring how they can get their innocent son out of this tricky situation. The boy’s family also approached police stations, however, nobody allegedly listened to them. Adil thus moved the CJM court of Aligarh, and subsequently civil lines police station was directed to lodge a case.

Background

Adil Ullah is a student of Bachelor’s in Science in AMU. He currently lives in Pahasu House in Civil lines, Aligarh. The boy has accused one Hamida (name changed) — who is 29-years-old and ten years older to him — of forcing him to marry her.

According to Adil, he used to tutor Parveen’s sister’s children. Gradually, Hamida got attracted to him and now forcefully wants to marry him. As per Adil, Hamida has her family’s support too, in her one-sided demands. Initially Hamida was engaged to a man from Mathura, however, she broke off the engagement because she didn’t like the man. Subsequently, she now insists on marrying Adil.

On the other hand, Adil is strictly against the woman’s wish since he is only 19 and would like to complete his education and support his family. When the boy refused to marry Hamida, she allegedly threatened him for filing a false rape case, backed by her family.

Adil’s advocate Chaudhary Ibrahim Hussain told media,

A woman named Hamida is forcing the 19-year-old to marry her. She also could consider a false rape case if he doesn’t do as she says. He went to police stations, however, they denied to file his case. Now the case has been registered in the CJM court, through Civil lines police station.

Hussain further continued,

Adil Ullah’s age is not legally permissible for getting married as he’s just 21. They both have a difference of ten years between them.

Adil has pleaded for support of court in his case. He informed that his family and him are disturbed by this incident.

Aligarh police later put out their statement to independent journalist Deepika Bhardwaj on twitter stating,

According to the police inspector in-charge of the police station, a case has been registered against the complainant (Adil) in the police station in the matter. False and misleading information is being sent out by the complainant to create pressure.
