Vikas hailed from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and had graduated in 2018. Later, he joined the Naubasta Police station as a officer in Kanpur. Five days ago, the officer rented a house from one Pramod Kumar Gautam (landlord), right behind the police station.
The station in-charge said when Vikas did not report for work on Saturday at 9am, he tried calling him for long. When he did not receive the call nor called back, they sent a couple of officers to his residence. There they found Vikas hanging in his home, while his mobile phone was lying near the window. This made the police suspicious that Vikas must have hanged himself after being on call with his girlfriend.
When the SSP reached the scene himself, he asked the forensic team to gather all evidence. Later, when his family reached his place in Kanpur, the body was taken for the postmortem. Vikas is survived by three other siblings.
