This case pertains to January 2020. A woman was arrested for allegedly extorting money from a Human Resource manager of a Pune-based company by threatening to file a false rape case against him. As per a media report, the Crime Branch of the Pune police arrested the woman in extortion case.
According to the police, the woman asked the HR professional to pay her Rs 7 lakh, failing which she would register a false rape case against him. The woman had already taken Rs 45,000 as the first instalment. However, the matter came to light after the HR professional didn’t pay Rs 6.5 lakh as demanded by the accused.
To get the remaining ransom, she called him at Kharadi bypass Pune. Police city anti-extortion cell inspector Rajendra Mohite, sub-inspector Nilesh Kumar Mahadik, constable Chikale, Kadam, P.N.Kokare, and a team of narcotics control bureau trapped her and caught red-handed. They confiscated two mobile phones and cash worth Rs 13,860.

The FIR against the lady and her partner was registered in Chandan Nagar police station for offences under:
- Section 384 (extortion)
- Section 506 (criminal intimidation)
- Section 34 (common intention)
….of the Indian Penal Code.
A court remanded her to police custody for further investigation.
In a statement issued later, police said the anti-extortion cell received a complaint that a woman was contacting HR professionals of different companies, developed friendly relations with them and later demanded money along with her accomplice when she met them by threatening to register rape cases against them.

In another case from Pune in February 2020, a father-son doctor duo allegedly fell prey to an extortion bid, with a ransom of Rs 75 lakh was demanded from them. A woman had lodged a case of harassment against the son and a policeman too got involved in extortion by threatening them to file charges of rape if they failed to pay up. He also blackmailed the father that his son would end up spending ten years in jail if they did not pay the ransom. Read Here.
