Haryana Police Lodges Cross FIRs Against Sonali Phogat & Sultan Singh

On Friday, a video of Tiktok star and BJP leader Sonali Phogat went viral where the politician is seen slapping a government official and then also thrashing him with a slipper in public view. Through the video, the woman is accusing him for derogatory language against her.

Phogat had lost to former chief minister Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi from Adampur in 2019 Haryana Assembly polls.

What Exactly Happened?

The incident took place in Balsamand village of Hisar district when Phogat had gone to the local grain market. The official she thrashed was identified as Sultan Singh, secretary of Hisar market committee. In video clippings, Phogat is heard saying,

Do I work to listen to your abuses? Is there no sister or mother at your home?

Last evening, Hisar SP Ganga Ram Punia told The Indian Express that police were in the process of lodging an FIR against Phogat on the basis of a complaint filed by Singh, who in turn is also being booked on the basis of a complaint by Phogat. He said,

Sonali Phogat is being booked under section 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 332 (causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC…while FIR is being lodged against the official under sections 354 (outraging modesty of woman) and 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of woman) of the IPC.

Sources said late Friday evening police lodged both FIRs.

On other hand, Singh spoke to the local media. He said,

At 10 am, I had received a phone call from my staff that madam Sonali had come to the Hisar market committee. I briefed her about the procurement of gram. Then, she said that there is no shed in Balsamand grain market. I went there while she came along with her supporters who were in 4-5 vehicles.

At Balasamand, I noted whatever problems she mentioned. She blamed me for opposing her during the Adampur election. I said somebody might have misguided her. Then she asked me to turn towards her. As soon as I turned towards her, she slapped me while blaming me for abuse. I was surprised.

The goons were with her. They too thrashed me. I ran to a shop to save my life. In the shop, madam started thrashing me with her slippers. I told her that I did not abuse her. Two of her supporters videographed the incident.

In another interview, Sultan Singh also says he is already tired of working in Lockdown and with all this pressure, I feel like ending my life.

Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala asked whether the Khattar government would act on the matter. Adampur MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi called it an “illegal act”. We wonder if opposition would have stood up for the man and been so prompt if the matter wasn’t politically motivated.

Sonali Phogat Husband Death

In December 2016, Dainik Bhaskar had reported about the mysterious death of Sonali Phogat’s husband. As per the report, Sanjay Phogat retired to bed completely normal, but was found dead in the middle of the night by his brother Surendra Phogat. Seen with white foam on the mouth, the family panicked and rushed Sanjay to the hospital. He was however declared dead on arrival.

While Sonali Phogat rushed to the hospital immediately, several other members of the party soon joined in as well.

In January 2017, speaking to Asian Age, Sonali gave her version on the rumours that suspected foul play in her husband’s death. Sonali then quoted,

It’s unfortunate that people are spreading stories of foul play in my husband’s death just because he was found dead at our farm house. I was informed of the incident while I was away in Mumbai attending my co-star’s wedding. When I last spoke to my husband on December 14, he was healthy, and so I had no reason to suspect anything. My sister and my nephew checked on him and he appeared fine. Next morning, when my husband didn’t leave his room, my nephew went to check and found him motionless.

They rushed him to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead and informed us that he passed away in his sleep owing to a cardiac arrest. My husband’s family has a history of cardiac arrests as a result of which most of his family members have died young.

We had moved to our farm house long back. Several people don’t know this and are hence making stories. Little do they realise that my world has come crashing down. He was my support system and we were happy together. For my daughter’s sake I will have to be strong and pick up the pieces of my life. He wanted me to contest the Lok Sabha elections 2019, so I will start preparing for that.
