On May 12, 2020, a High Court judge in the UK ruled that Simrin Choudhrie (wife) is entitled to £60 million after the breakdown of her marriage to her rich Indian husband Bhanu Choudhrie. An interior designer by profession, the woman has been awarded a divorce settlement equivalent to Rs 550 Crore from an Indian businessman who had tried to gag her in a “pillow-talk” legal row.
The expected lump sum payment to Simrin follows a lengthy legal battle after a bitter break up with her husband, the son of a wealthy Liberal Democrat donor. The Indian businessman, who lives in London, had earlier sued his then wife to try to prevent her disclosing confidential information after he was being questioned about a Rolls-Royce corruption inquiry.
Bhanu, 41, is the son of Sudhir Choudhrie, 70, who had donated more than £1.5 million to the Lib Dems since 2004. Simrin and her multi-millionaire private equity firm boss husband Bhanu had fought over tens of millions of pounds at hearings in the Family Division of the High Court in London.

The 38-year-old wife had demanded a lump sum of £100million, however, this was reduced by 40 percent in a ruling by Mr Justice Cohen.
Bhanu Choudhrie is the founder of Westminster-based global private equity firm C&C Alpha Group and hails from one of the wealthiest families in India, which has a rumoured net worth of £1.6billion. He was represented by solicitor Ayesha Vardag, who is known for her 2010 Supreme Court victory that strengthened the status of prenuptial agreements in English law, plus barristers Richard Todd QC, Nicholas Yates QC and Ben Wooldridge.
Simrin Choudhrie appeared on Secret Millionaire in 2011, where she posed as a penniless pregnant woman to give £100,000 to a centre for vulnerable people in Sheffield.
The couple shared a £20million, six-storey Belgravia home, which they extended in 2015 by adding a two-storey basement including a cinema, pool and spa complex – all accessed by a lift. The couple has a nine year old son named Kabir.
Journalists had been allowed to attend the divorce hearings but strict limits were placed on what could be revealed. The pair could be named and the approximate size of Mrs Choudhrie’s lump sum settlement was permitted to be reported.
