Bhopal Doctor Is Living Out Of His Car To Protect His Family From COVID Infection

COVID-19 Pandemic may be tough on us as commoners as we have never been compelled to sit at home, however, if you feel low, think about those several health professionals who are facing difficult times balancing professionally yet keeping their own selves and families safe.

Dr Sachin Nayak, one doctor from Bhopal is being hailed on social media for living out of his car to ensure his family does not get infected. The Madhya Pradesh doctor has also been praised by the state’s chief minister.

Dr Nayak, who is working at the state-run JP Hospital in Bhopal, decided to start living out of his car to avoid spreading the infection at home in case he caught it at work. After returning from duty each day, he would plonk himself on a mattress spread over the reclined back seat. Soaps, laptops, chargers, clothes, tooth brush, towel were all inside the car.

A photo of the young doctor reading a book in the back of his car, surrounded by some basic supplies was widely shared after the official handle of All India Radio tweeted it. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also praised the doctor in a tweet.

Thanking the doctor, the chief minister expressed his gratitude and said,

If we all continue with this resolve, then we will be able to win this great war more quickly.

Dr Nayak also replied to the CM’s tweet saying,

Serving patients is supreme. Each one of us are striving to secure our state people, all we request you is to stay at home. Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja, Khushi Ke Geet Gaaye Ja.

Dr Nayak from the Anaesthesia Department at the hospital told The Hindu that this was not by choice but by compulsion. He said,

It was a compulsion… I didn’t have a choice.

The hospital first tended to incoming patients, which overwhelmed its resources, and then made arrangements for doctors as other city-based hospitals eased its initial load. After performing duty in isolation wards for a few days, doctors are required to quarantine themselves to rule out the possibility of infecting patients and family members. He adds,

Present Update on Coronavirus India Update

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a digital meet with the chief ministers of all the states on tomorrow i.e., Saturday (April 11). He is likely to discuss the lockdown extension issue among others with the ministers. The states have been pushing the central government to extend the countrywide lockdown duration amid increasing novel coronavirus cases across India.

In his last meeting with state CMs on April 2, the prime minister had sought suggestions for a “staggered” exit plan wherein the states will end the lockdown in a staged manner.

India recorded 614 active COVID-19 cases and 33 deaths in last 24 hours, according to Ministry of Health Family Welfare. The total number of active cases now stand at 5,709 whereas the total death toll is at 199 now. Meanwhile, the those cured, discharged, migrated are now at 503. The total number of confirmed cases in the country stand at 6,412.
